Got Ripped off on Ebay
I said people *should* regulate it.
Well, I and most of my friends are clearly capable of regulating it. I guess if there are so many people victim to this type of fraud then they all must be truly careless and unintelligent people. So much for people doing it bc I guess they aren't smart enough to do it.
So let's get the government involved to help the stupid people. In fact, let's make it discrimination if stupid people aren't hired for a job or allowed to go to college. Let's make them a part of affirmative action programs..
It's a shame really to think that many people in our country are so irresponsible with their purchasing behavior, but I guess it is true. I wish there was another explanation.
Laws already exist outlawing this stuff.. We don't need more of them. Regulation is not necessary. EDUCATE people on how to buy responsibly. That is a better solution that will carry over to other areas of life...
I would much more in favor of educational programs designed to teach children and adults how to LIVE intelligently, wisely, and responsibly. Instead, some people want the government to think for people so people can continue grazing in life..
Having the government step in to take care of us will lead only to more dependence on the government. Is that what you really want? Come one people. WE are supposed to be the government, but more and more each day it seems like people don't want that responsibility. I guess Communism isn't so bad after all...

PS - I really don't think everyone is stupid, and even if they are, I have no problem with them, Shoot I have several friends who are stupid..

I am not saying this is anyone's fault but mine, dont get me wrong. I am pissed off about what has happened, and am trying to get my cash back without you having to pay more taxes.
As for saying Canadians cant be trusted, I am sure you will get some flames for that, but I'll be the first to say that only 1 Canadian has screwed me, and about 10 are trying to help me get my money back. Americans are no different, there is always going to be someone out there that is going to screw you out of your cash.

Sorry Randman, I wasn't implying YOU were stupid. I don't know how much you lost, but I am sure you knew the risks involved. I guess sometimes people can get so excited about buying things they forget to be careful when purchasing..
As for Canadians, you really didn't think I was serious did you?

Well you have your opinion, but I have a feeling some day that your descendants will be fighting for "America" while mine will be fighting against America for "Freedom"...

Either some of you guys REALLY missed the point of my post or I simply was unclear as to my opinion. I'll choose the latter. So here tis: I would like the government to step in to PENALIZE those found guilty of online fraud, not to regulate the transactions. I've been a member of eBAY since about a week after it went online and the site's success has simply overwhelmed their interest in protecting their own consumer base. Anyone noticed how much paypal's user fees have increased lately? Might it have something to do with eBAY acquiring them? Ask various guitar dealers who sell on eBAY how helpful they are with deadbeat bidders. Jesus...it takes three or four attempts to sell something in the guitar section because every 12-year-old from here to Alaska bids on a guitar and then scans the newbie listings for the bigger and better deal, meanwhile leaving the owner of said instrument out in the cold, having to relist the instrument yet again. I've lost count of how many friends in the business have finally said it's just not worth the aggravation anymore to do business on eBAY, at least until they come up with something a bit more substantial than SAFE HARBOR, which is a joke.
The government is going to get involved, like it or not. My request is that they concentrate on the scam artist and levy HEAVY penalties (mandatory prison time) and leave the rest of us honorable folks alone. Buyer beware is a code much easier to live by when you're looking the guy who just scammed you face to face. The old ways of doing business and the old warnings don't apply anymore. As society advances and changes, so should consumer protection laws aimed at protecting the consumer, not taking over eBAY. More buying and selling opportunities should not result in LESS penalities for the guilty. Like I said, bring in Uncle Sam to throw 'em behind bars, but leave the nuts and bolts to the business'. I don't see anything wrong with the government taking a more active role in combating online crime. It seems to me most of us are crying foul for all the freakin' SPAM crap we get on a daily basis and want those responsible to pay the price and yet we have those who are content to tell a victim of online fraud "buyer beware dude, it's your own fault." For Pete's sake, that's like telling a girl, "well, you shouldn't have worn those hoochie shorts, you asked for it."
