Default Got in a wreck on a highway

I was driving in wet conditions at 60mph on a freeway with stock tired on an 05' s2k, went up a hill and didn't notice there was a huge pool of water at the peak. As soon as I went over it I felt the tail go loose, car hydroplaned and started turning left (which is where the concrete barrier was). I turned right and drifted straight for a few seconds, and once the wheels caught traction again the car did a 360 and spun across the 3 lane highway. It started to slow down and came to a complete stop after a few seconds when reaching the grass. No physical collision or contact with anything, but came within a yard from hitting a sign. I got extremely lucky and didn't hit any cars and with no cars hitting me. I thought I was about to hit that concrete wall and it would send me flipping over.

The only noticeable damage was my lip split in half right down the middle, and my driver's rear wheel is bent inwards at a 45 degree angle. Probably some damage done to the other wheels and parts under the car that I'm not seeing too. No dents, and nothing came off though since I didn't hit anything.

A cop showed up 5 minutes later. I got a ticket for driving too fast for conditions although he didn't clock my speed. He told me the ticket didn't mean I was going over or under the speed limit, just that I didn't travel at a speed where I was able to handle the car, and he took 2 points from my license.

The tow truck guy said it was totaled and told me he's seen totaled cars several times. Then again, he's the tow truck man. The insurance company should be looking at it soon to estimate the cost of damage and whether or not it's worth fixing.

I feel like this wreck could have gone in so many wrong ways but didn't, and I'm pretty grateful I had this accident instead of a worse one. Hope you guys stay safe in hazardous weather!

How did you do all that damage if you said you had no physical contact with anything?

moral of story, cops are assholes, and tow truck drivers arn't insurance adjusters.

I doubt your car is totaled, and fight that ticket.

Seems weird to have so much damage with out whiting anything. I have seen guys do a 360 or more at the track into the grass and keep going for the rest of the day and never report any damage from it..

The grassy area had a small slope to it. The wheel probably pushed up against it as the car finished its final spin on that slope, but the actual body didn't hit anything.

Post up some pictures, including tread depth of your rear tires.

Probably not totalled. Just a few thousand in control arm / suspension damage.

And I thought your car was an 04, not an 05.

Yeah, about that, I was going to get a used 04' but then my bro sold me his 05'. I never kept track (just being stupid) and mixed his 05' up with the 04' I was originally going to get. For some reason I always thought I was driving an 04' up until now.

I'll try to take pics if I have time from college to drive up to the tow place.

the control arms are aluminum, so they bend easily. which is probably a good thing.

If the damage is mainly what you guys suggest, should the car still drive the same?
