Got in a wreck on a highway
Sorry, had to bump since I got the car back now, and I didn't notice there were so many other posts that I didn't see.
No. He arrived about five minutes later. I didn't fight the ticket since it was $100. I didn't know how much lawyer fees would cost, whether it was worth it, and how much time it would have taken since I had other things to deal with.
Sorry, I didn't have time to go back to the tow place (it was an hour away), and when I actually did have time the insurance co. had already taken the car. I've gotten the car back now though, and they replaced by rims, but kept the tires.
I'll post them up as soon as I'll get the camera. You can see the scrapes on the tires still.
Did they even have one of those accident investigator out to see how fast you were going?.....
Nope. Just the cop and the tow guy.
So about the car, the engine looks really old when I got it back today... On the day of the wreck after I popped the hood open right before I left the tow place, both my brother and the tow guy were amazed at how clean and new it looked. The tow guy thought the car was totaled but retracted his statement after he saw the engine bay. Now, the engine looks dusty, but there's nothing to dust off. There's scratches/scrapes on the Honda VTEC portion that I don't think I've ever seen before. The red color of the engine used to be bright and new looking, but now it's a dull red color. Add to that, I sort of feel a weird slightly strong vibration to the seats and the car when I leave the car idling, which I don't recall encountering before. Did I get screwed over and the body shop did an engine swap on me? I only have 18,500 miles btw, not 20k+ as I had originally thought.
Repair-wise, they replaced $4000 worth of stuff, including front and rear bumpers from hit and runs that weren't from the accident, control arms, axle assy, bearing, ABS sensor. They repainted the whole car too, in which some parts I can see larger specs that don't blend evenly with the rest of the car.
So if the cop didn't clock your speed...did he even see it happen? Definitely fight it. Good luck with repairs.
Still in for tire pictures.

Can you check the serial number of the "new" engine? Does it match the serial number on the door sill?
I'll check it tomorrow since it's pretty dark out and I don't have any flashlights. Where is the serial code on the engine btw? Anyway, I feel pretty certain they did an engine swap for some reason. The whole engine bay looks off, and so dirty. The actual engine block having scrapes, and dull faded colors bugs the **** out of me after remembering what I originally had.
Ckit, I have images of the wheels taken a couple of months before the wreck. These were taken on 12/15/09. I can take closer up pics once I get the camera back.

moral of story, cops are assholes, and tow truck drivers arn't insurance adjusters.
I doubt your car is totaled, and fight that ticket.

A cop showed up 5 minutes later. I got a ticket for driving too fast for conditions although he didn't clock my speed. He told me the ticket didn't mean I was going over or under the speed limit, just that I didn't travel at a speed where I was able to handle the car, and he took 2 points from my license.
.sounds like you're home free on any charges against you should you decide to fight the ticket. 1) he didn't witness the accident, 2) he didn't clock your speed, and 3) there were no other witnesses (i'm assuming). for all he knows, someone else's poor driving could have caused you to go off the road, and there's nothing he can do to prove otherwise. the same shit that happened to you at 60mph could have happened to you at 30mph on a wet day like that. the truth of the matter is that you got a ticket b/c the officer would have taken major heat from his boss if he hadn't written you one. the same shit happened to me when i had my accident, even though it involved no other cars and the officer did not witness it (nor did any witnesses passing by stop to see if i was ok or wait around to corroborate my police report). i went to traffic court to fight it, and the officer just requested that the judge dismiss the charges before the proceedings even began. in fact, the officer probably wouldn't have even shown up, were it not for another person who was there to fight a ticket he wrote. hell, i'll be honest, when the officer first wrote me the ticket, he told he was doing it b/c he had to, and that i could fight it in traffic court without much trouble. seems like you should do the same.
Thanks for the comments guys.
So i checked the engine, and the serial number doesn't match with the car's...
If the body shop has an old s2000 with a junk but working engine, I don't see why they wouldn't swap out for a perfectly fine looking one.
I had changed my oil pretty recently before the wreck too, and I make sure to never reach the H emblem on the dipstick whenever I add oil. Now the oil looks pretty dark, and when I first checked it after I got the car back, the oil was above the H emblem. Now it seems to hover below or at the H emblem whenever I check it.
