Default Hard Tops? What's Up With Those?

Alright, I'm going to ask a stupid question, but it's been bugging me. What's the obsession with putting hard tops on S2000's? I'm not saying it's bad or I don't like it, or anything like that, I just don't get why it's so popular.

Some people prefer it to look like a coupe or want it to be a coupe?

I am waiting on one I ordered from Forbidden right now. I just love how the car looks with one. So it's an aesthetic preference for me.

I never bought the car based on the fact it was a convertible, I bought it because I loved how it drove on the track. Plus it looks better with one.

I've always found soft tops a bit tacky looking. There's one reason for you.

Soft top is all about convenience and not much else given they rip and require replacement often. Hardtop looks better, gives you better protection from the elements, better security, less road noise, nicer environment to listen to music, easier to listen to or take a BT call, better protection in an accident, and the list goes on.....but in the end I love the convenience of a soft top

Soft top is all about convenience. You can lower or raise that top in 6 seconds at a light. Night and day. Replacement often? How many years do you consider often? Depends on how much care is given. Protection from the elements? What elements are you talking about? Mine is water tight. Perhaps would not be as good for meteor strikes. Road noise? I added 3M Thinsulate and it is much quieter. Even added some to soft top itself and the tray. Now music, conversation, and calls are just fine.

If the S were not a convertible I would not have acquired one. Its all about top down which is 95% of my driving. It is a PITA to remove the hard top on a quick whim. On the road?; forget about it.

It seems to me most of the hard top enthusiasts are in climates that are crummy and an enclosed environment is called for.

Would you want to drive this Tioga Pass all enclosed sealed up in (albeit attractive) hard top or in the beautiful mountain air? Passing thunderstorm? No worries. 6 seconds
and you are happy as a clam.

How about this beach drive? Top down for me baby!

I own a HT, but I also would never have bought the S2000 if it wasn't a convertible. I think the HT makes the car look great (even better than topless) but I love the feel of the wind and the "closeness" with all around you that you get with a convertible. For me the HT is all about looks and comfort. During the summer I can go months without putting it on, during the winter it typically stays on till March or so...

Might as well ask why is every expensive or upper-class roadster all have convertible hardtop...

I think it looks great with or without a hardtop. The only thing that would bug me if I had a hardtop is if I wanted to go top down and I am nowhere near my house...

Why do people act like if you have a hard top then you must never drive top down? I live in SoCal where we have the best weather. I take my hard top as often as possible. I love both looks
