Hardtop Wind Noise
So. It's Winter and I'm bored. Love driving the S2000 and constantly looking for little tweaks to make it "perfect" for me.
Notice that there is wind noise and turbulence from the sides of the windows where they meet the virtual B-pillar of the hardtop. There is not much air leak and the rubber seals well. I use Shin-Etsu and there's no water leak.
With the sound deadening mods and the heated seats, it's a great daily driver as a "normal car" sub-VTEC.
Was thinking about fabbing some weatherstripping to the B-pillar of the hardtop that would go OUTSIDE the window along the back edge to reduce wind noise. Ironically, if not done right it would probably make things louder.
Anyone with wind-tunnel / engineering experience have any suggestions?
EDIT:

The areas outlined in RED are the places where the road salt has preferentially accumulated. This could be a good proxy for tunnel testing. It's extremely flat at this segment and is a "wall" to airflow. Maybe a rubber or silicone baffle that would attach there. Time to wander through the local Autozone.

Looking at your pictures your top looks like it is sitting to far back. Got any better side views?
I ask cause my colored part of my top is lines up with my hinge pillar just about. I have no wind noise there.
I'll take pics and BRB.

I kinda have a fix for it since I was exp the issue. Now there is very minimal wind noise on the driver side, passanger has none.
First, I added a piece of weather stiripping on the side of the window. I put some silicone to hold it and placed it inside of the weather stripping.(There is a little gap that you can insert a piece).
That helped but the main issue with the wind noise was comming from the bottom of the window. What I did them was use another piece of weather stripping, but it going horizontally underneath there the hardtop sits on the bottom. So basically, the hardtop is holding this piece. This decreased the wind noise. After that second piece, I can hear some noise only over 80-100 but its barely nothing compared to what it was doing before.
Other places around the window I had some little issues but I just put in some pieces of weather stripping on the inside so that the weather stripping gets pushed out.
My issue im going to tackle this weekend is the damm hardtop stryker noise which keeps on getting loose(just going to screw it in with some glur or a washer) and the occasional rattle coming from the passanger side rear which I beleive its the catcher hitting some metal.

As for the catcher thing, I did the following:
1. Isolate whether you have the side to side or front to back rattle.
2. There is a rattle where you can hold the sides and rock side to side.
3. There is a "scritch scritch" where the silver metal internal clamp in the body of the latch rubs on the horizontal black bar it catches.
4. There is a rattle from the front plate striker not being tight enough.
For number 2: The little foam insertion trick works well. You take a little foam rubber and wedge it in between the metal and the plastic of the sides (body of the latch). There was a TSB about it.
For number 3: I used a little electrical tape and Shin-Etsu grease on the crossbar. During Winter when I leave the hardtop on for months, I'll put a small cloth square (cut from a bedsheet) in between the receiver and the latch (so the body of the latch). That way the clasp mechanism has a layer of cloth and it's not metal on metal scritching.
For number 4: You can use the rubber tubing over the hook to make it pull tighter against the windshield strike plate. Or you can use a small felt velcro pad on the strike plate to increase the distance and pull firmer. Or you can use another small cloth cutout square to achieve the same thing.
Of course, make sure the two Phillips head screws holding the latch in place are snug. I used a little blue loctite.
Oh, and also the plastic "button" that you depress to unlatch the latch.... that rattles too sometimes. I have a small piece of electrical tape to firm up the mechanism.
Can you tell how much I
rattles and squeaks?

Clean car!
It lines up the same. It was just the steep angle I was taking pictures from.
It's similar to your 2nd picture for comparison... looks like it's far "back" in that situation. But it's not.

I put velcro cord wraps to hold the soft top "hooks" flat so they don't rattle during the wintertime.
