Is it harmful to turn the AC on and off?

Just keep it on recirculating mode to make it more efficient.

I don't get why you would want to do that though ...

It's like trying to hit the wipers every now and then, instead of leaving it on at interval (well, for cars that have that luxury )

I just leave mine on and point the vents all the way up, it basically makes a vortex and cools the air around you instead of blowing on you.

Hmm.. a vortex, eh? My favorite is having the top down and AC full blast - the best of both worlds!

I find that if you keep it at the coldest and turn it on and off, it keeps the cabin cooler longer than if you adjust the thermostat warmer. When you have it warmer it feels like the heater is partially on thus blowing warm air when the compressor cycles off.

Not the case for me in the warm climate we get here in Louisville, KY. The car gets too hot after shutting the A/C off. I just adjust it to the correct temperature and leave it on. It's there for a reason..
