Has anyone had a problem with there HID's???
I took my car in to Classic Honda the other day cause one of my headlights didn't work. I always heard that HID's last a long time, so I didn't think it was a bulb. Well they told me that it was the converter box that sits down behind the bumper. Just wondering if this has happen to anyone else? I thought it was odd that it just went out.

that happened to mine. and then i started to shop around for a bulb and the price for that you would not believe. it was i believe $180. plus the installation, you have to take the front tire. anyway, it was under warranty. so i end up not paying for anything.
HID's have a limited lifetime, just like every other bulb, but they should last a LOT longer than your average halogen (I seem to remember 5 times being the average number, but don't quote me on that).
The voltage coverters will ocassionally go bad, but why they charge such a high price for such a low-cost item is beyond me. For all intents and purposes, you can consider our lightbulbs very similar to fluorescents, just with a different gas...they have a bulb filled with a gas, and a ballast that gives the bulb a high-voltage kick, and then drops the voltage back for normal operating voltages. I'm sure most of us have flipped on a fluorescent and have it fail to come on immediately. Two main reasons for this: 1) The bulb is starting to go bad...solution, change the bulb, or 2) The ballast is starting to go bad (or sometimes they just don't "catch" once in a blue moon, such as the "happened once, never since" case).
