Has anyone substituted a remote for dash controls?

I am looking into an aftermarket radio and I have pretty much settled for the Alpine CDA-7875. It comes with a remote. Has anyone taken the remote over getting the mod to work the dash controls? I really do not want to spend additional money if I don't have to. But I don't want any regrets.

PM Pinky about this one, or check out the Electronics forum.

If you don't convert the dash controls, then you have all of those buttons just sitting there, doing nothing. Are you going to put something else in that position in the dash (gauges or something)?

T.O.,

I will occasionally use the remote for my Sony since it fits so nicely in that little slot behind the cupholder, but in the end it's more of an annoyance. I have to fumble with it, make sure it's pointing in the right direction, then feel around for the right button (since I don't want to take my eyes off the road).

It's a workable option, but my personal preference goes against it and for the PAC. Either grab one of Pinky's PAC mods, or look on my webpage for installing your own. If you're pinching pennies, a number of us have gotten the PAC unit and installed it ourselves for about $45-$50.

From what I've read, you're gonna have to spend some extra money.
