Has there ever been a V8 powered S?

That video of the S2k with an "LS1", I'm pretty sure is not real. I think it is just an S with ITBs.

The reason why people don't swap out the engine, is because most of us bought the car *because* of the engine.

However I would much rather see a more powerful high revving honda engine (6 or 8cyl) to match the design philosophy of the car than a domestic V8.

In a miata I could care less if a V8 is stuffed in there because to me it is just a fun little car; that does everything right and fits the classic definition of a roadster. Lightweight, affordable but a tad underpowered. And like in the past as others have figured out, if you can stuff a V8 in it, why not.

The S as a whole however seems so much more. Not to mention the S is fast stock for most people.

Not that I am thinking about it for the S but the thought has crossed my mind for another car I have but one sticking point has been to find dimensions and weights of the complete engines.

Which V8 is the smallest?

Which is the widest?

Which is the shortest nose to tail?

Which is the lightest?

I've seen the small block Ford in a Miata and there was a remarkable amount of room around the engine. I expected it to be literally crammed in there.

Several have claimed 50/50 weight distributions but I don't see how. Several have also claimed autocross type handling still. I don't believe that!!!

Other than going to a junk yard and measuring I have never been able to find dimensions to compare.

The alloy 1UZ-FE (Lexus v8) can be found in this modified Miata frame.

Also this may help guide you on engine choice:

Then again maybe not as I don't see the F20C on there.

That was concluded as a fake a long time ago. They never had any pics of the engine bay or anything. I can overlap that sound onto any car. Notice it doesn't change tone that much when he walks around it like it suppose to. Plus the exhaust is bone stock OEM. I really doubt someone would go through all that trouble to put a V8 in and keep the stock exhaust.
