One thing that you guys have not talked about is the failure mode. Did the teeth break off the pinion as the diff in Florida? Or did the limited slip have a problem?

The teeth broken is from hard shock clutch drops, the limited slip problem is from spinning circles like the video from Pheonix.

The diff is not made by Honda, we buy it from a vendor in Japan.

There have not been very many failures. I know of most of them.

I have driven a lot different S2000s and every one of them has a slight groan for about half a second when at a stop turning full lock right or left, then starting forward or reverse.

Hope this helps,

Woodwork

Woodwork, I'm guessing you're with Honda North America since you're from Torrance and referred to "we" in the purchasing process, correct? Please explain to me what "mode" you classify it under when the LSD stops functioning properly but there is no visible damage to anything and there has been no abuse... even though you seem to classify all problems by type of abuse that caused them.

Give em hell Woodwork!

Unless you're Warren Johnson in a pro-stocker, these friggin' clutch drops are brutal drive line abuse!

(I'm sorry...I know I sound like your mom)

That's cool, if you guys want to drive your cars like a pu$$y, enjoy!

I'm actively searching for a new diff.

Hey real great attitude, RT! Guess what... we don't all drive like pu$$ies. Can I ask something? Has your diff failed yet?

Why the sour grapes?... this poll pretty much proves 2 things - that there aren't as many failures as people may have thought, and that there might be a defect which causes some failures. Still other failures are undoubtedly caused by abuse.

But if there is a defect, pursue it with Honda and try to get a TSB or something... don't just go putting an inferior type of differential in. Work toward a positive solution for the group and for Honda rather than turning your back on everyone.

I for one am very interested in the failure rate and will be keeping my eye on it... and looking for possible pattern. A pattern might be a clue as to a defect but only time will tell.

Jason, don't get me wrong, there's no back turning here, there's just no wining.
We got what we got (S2000) and we should use it how we see fit. If that is not what Honda expected then fine I'll buy a new diff, on my own, but it sure the hell ain't going to be another of the same. Get it!

BTW mine is not TU, but from the way you guys (not you specifically) (the pu$$ies ) are saying don't do this and don't do that, mine is definitely pass due.
How do the business-type say, "pro-active" in the search for an economically and technically sound solution which also minimizes the potential for down-time .
I'm casually looking for options now, instead of scrambling after the fact. I'm not going to use my "ONE TIME HONDA GOOD-WILL CREDIT" on the diff if it truly is a POS.
Know what I mean?

I hear you, RT... I'm just saying that it hasn't been proved yet that the diff is truly a POS. A couple failures does not a POS make!

I would recommend you let Honda try to rectify the situation if your diff does break... then, if it breaks again get an aftermarket diff.

I'm just sayin' don't give up yet!

Pu$$y!!?? I'm not a saint RT, I'm just not a drag racer! Meet me on a road course at high noon hombre (you better read my profile first). If I WERE a drag racer, I wouldn't have chosen a four cylinder car with 153 foot pounds of torque.

OK, you make the payments, you have a right to treat the car however you wish. Just don't whine too loud when parts start flying off your car.

Still friends?
