Yes RT, I'm afraid I DO make payments! My home equity lender has this silly little clause about paying them back.

Man, I'm really taking a beating here. I drive like a Pu$$y, I'm poor, and my not dad is gonna get his butt kicked!

Your turn.

Yeah, well, I'm making payments too and my Dad is actually a wimp (don't tell him though, he'll kick my ass).

Well my diff just didnt "break". It started to howl first..which honda said were the bearings...then the clicking started due to the fact that the bearings coulding keep up with the rpm's...then the clicking started to cluck because the teeth were wearing really fast. All of this was stated from honda.

My diff didn't just "break" either. After the fresh fluid was put in it kinda sounded like a whirling space alien wooshing sound that got faster with speed. Don't beleive there were any broken teeth.

well your dealer where you are didnt misdiagnose your problem for a bad wheel bearing like Classic Honda did to me. So as I drove..it just got more and more damage added to it. Your dealer caught yours. And didnt let you drive on it. Which was the SAFE thing to do. No i could have caused an accident had my diff locked up at high speed on the free way. thank god i was only going 35mph.

I went in for the TSB work (had the decel noise in the clutch and the grind fix was my option without symptoms). When they first checked the car they found that the oil was filled with metal particles and they then suspected a diff problem. When they replaced the oil with fresh there was definately an audible problemin the diff. Before that I had no -known- problem or symptoms. It sounded fine to me but I had really not compared it to another s2k.
PS
The dealer let me drive the car home and said it seemed ok to drive while they ordered parts. Probably not the safest or best advice. I drove the car maybe 30 miles while they ordered parts and it really did not seem to be getting progressively worse.

I don't really think it was "ok before the rebuild" the problem had to be there because all they did to cause it to become noticably audible was change the oil, which I believe was more than just dirty. I guess they were doing me a favor. What do you mean? Oh.. I used up my one time "good will" fix. Well time will tell I guess but I am really happy with my dealer. I seem to be making friends with the service manager who loves that I know so much about the car, thanks to all of you! They generally give me whatever I want. They also know I am a lawyer. lol cheers

I've lusted after this car since first reading about it in mid 99. Now I'm in a position (lease is up) to get one I keep hearing about #4 cylinder & differential failures. I don't intend on racing or abusing (imo) the car just some fun on twisties every now & again after my daily 5 mile commute. I just can't understand the problems. I've owned 6 Honda products in the last 15 years & had little trouble. I can't figure out who's abusing & who's not, besides the definition is mostly a matter of opinion. I have found that the majority of posters with these problems are driving 00 models. Does this mean the problems are exclusive to 00's or that there aren't many 01 owners here with many miles therefore these problems have yet to surface???? I have been spoiled by Honda's track record on reliability & just can't justify plopping down 32,740 knowing there is a fair amount of possibility of significant problems. Any info. is appreciated. Unfortunately if major problems were to arise I will have to deal with the same DSM as Desmond....to make matters worse.
