Head rest problems: voluntary recall underway, free replacement with new model
Here are the changes. The Version II head rests are completely sewn together (no more gluing of pieces). The section that force fits into the hole in the seat has a zipper which provides access to the foam pieces (additional padding can be added or padding removed, although we supply them with what we think is the ideal padding). Finally, a blank CD (yes, a CD!) is fitted into the back just under the zipper. The CD creates a stiff backing and force fits between the seat leather and the plastic mesh, anchoring the head rest in place (no more wire ties or head rest blowing out a speed). James has road tested the final prototype for about three weeks now, and it all works great.
When production begins later this week, we will first make the replacements for everyone who has returned Version I headrests. Only when all the replacements have been made will we begin selling the new verion to new buyers. We'll have an introductory group buy for the Verions IIs (which are much more expensive to make) at the Version I price.
BTW, we owe a very large debt of gratitude to 2x6spds, who gave us a set of his Newport Beach headrests (no longer made) so that we could study some of his assembly methods. We borrowed a few ideas (the zipper mainly) and added a few wrinkles of our own. Thanks 2x6spds!

This kind of customer support is the reason I have no reluctance to order your products, Rick. However, I'm sorry to hear you're going to offer the first batch of new head rests only through a Group Buy. Personally, I would prefer an end to the GB approach--I assume it gives you a solid number of units to fabricate and perhaps simplifies things for you, but the delays--either inherent in the process, or added by people who don't pay in a timely fashion, or created by non-responsive distributors--hardly justify the slight savings from my point of view.
Rick, James, and the gang at Townsend Leather,
the new head rests arrived last week, and they are beautiful! They are a vast improvement over the first design.
Thank you for handling this so well, and for making a product that we can all be proud of having in our S2000s.

Thanks, Tedster. And thanks to everyone for their patience as we worked this out.
All the replacements will be completed this week, so we'll start taking orders for Version II from new buyers on Friday.

I have received my replacement headrests recently and I can only compliment Rick and his team on the work they did redesigning this product. The quality of the product is outstanding and the solution very innovative. I have many of Rick's products and can only compliment how he services his customers.
Thanks Rick for the fun products and reaffirming that doing business the right way does pay!
