And you all know when it scrapes it makes you cringe, or if you see a new dent or ding or scratch, it hurts a little. Seeing your miles climb and climb, your like yes I've lived the life of my s2000 and enjoyed every minute, but at the same time are like man I wonder how long it has before she caputs. I know hondas last well over 200k, but they don't live forever.

Point I was trying to make.

so the moral is, shit will happen no matter what

Get good insurance, use your head to where you park the car, drive defensibly and don't worry about things you have no control over. If it's going to bother you to DD your S, sell it and get a car you wont worry about and when you get a better paying job down the road, then go find a car(hopefully a "S") and then have fun with it.

Couldn't agree more Rod. Life is short. Live it!

I used to be that way. I used to be scared of the miles going up because it decreases value. Scared of dings, scrapes, etc because they decrease value. Then one day I said "F*** IT! I'll just keep this car forever, ITS BAD ASS" and that feeling went away. And after being in a big accident with my second favorite car, then getting enough money out of it to buy my favorite, I realized that as long as I dont drive poorly, I have nothing to worry about. Now go out, put the top down, and enjoy your cool ass car!

Being a car enthusiast becomes infinitely easier when you come to terms with the fact that a car is a car, it is driven in the real world, shit happens, and there's no point stressing over it because the only thing that worrying does is suck all the enjoyment out of the experience.

I've had bad experiences with my last two cars. First was my Integra (auto) and it was vandalized time and time again. Couldn't even tell you the amount I had to spend fixing it. Got an 08 Si after and got a much better alarm with everything but a lift sensor and wheel locks. I had two of my rims stolen out of my driveway. Was upset and realized it was dumb I didn't have wheel locks. Lesson learned.

I got my s2k and was a sloppy mess thinking about my seats getting stolen. Got seat locks and decals. Got an awesome alarm with two way pager and now am going to get a lift sensor. I'm not sure when, but at some point I just stopped worrying so much because if I don't have service for my pager to tell me my alarm is going off then there's nothing else I could have done. People are going to do what they please and no amount of alarms can stop them unless the car has its own security team. You just gotta enjoy it and handle things as they come along. Life is must better that way.

Yeah its tough, but in the end, there's only so much you can do. I got a new door ding today, felt bad, but life goes on. Eventually I'll have find someone who can do some paintless dent removal if I accumulate more.

I dd mine and it's lowered about an inch. I have no problems with curbs (unless they are majestically high) and usually higher ones I will angle slightly. I was in the same situation as you (school/work) and it hurt to put miles on the car 72k 3 years ago and now 108k. I got over it and realized if worse comes to worse, I drove it everyday and spent a lot of seat time in the car, whether it was daily, spirited, or track driving, if some idiot runs the red/etc and totals my car, I had enjoyed it. If it was a garage queen and just by horrible luck the rare times I take it out and the same thing happened, I basically barely drove the car and it is gone.

Sure the miles are higher but when you are able to have it not as a daily, you can always buy a lower mileage one later on, or rebuild/refresh everything on your specific car (for those that really love their cars).

Just my thoughts.

Doesn't bother me. I DD my S and enjoy it. From what you posted I'd get a cheap, reliable beater if I was in your shoes.
