Help, '04 S2000 or '01 BMW M3?
In my opinion the covertable factor will probably be the deal breaker. Both are great cars. The M3 looks like just another BMW, whereas the S2000 is always a standout. The S2000 commands respect in performance and appearance. The thought of selling my 2002 with 43,000 kms of happy, fun, trouble free driving has not entered my mind.
I love M3's, but I have heard that the motors are not very strong at all. I have heard many stories of people having whole motors replaced. BMW supposedly lost a lot of money because of this.
Anyway, I dont know if any of this is true, although I did hear it from a reliable source.
I would say M3 though just they look f'ing mean as hell!!!

I'd be on the side of "it's apples and oranges". If you want a classic GT (fast, heavy, large, hardtop), go for the M3...if you want a classic sports car (fast, light, small, roadster), buy the S2000...to me they are quite differentexperiences...
Interesting discussion if this were on car.com. But for those of us who love the top down exhiliration of a true roadster-talking about the practical points of the high torque high HP 4 seater status machine M3 belongs somewhere else. Don't get me wrong the bimmer is an awesome vehicle and I've enjoyed driving in them since the old 2002 moving box. But (again) I drive the S2000 because I LOVE to drive the S2000 top down-hard, fast, twisting, pounding, even straight or slow. It is my daily driver because I LOVE to drive the machine. I only wish my drive was longer and I had more time.
I think as far as advice pdippell has it right. These are different cars. If you have the option - choose the car you like to drive and the car that fits your needs.
For I hope a small number of the S2KI crowd I am sure you do not mean to make it sound this way, but (for the last time) it sounds as though the S2000 was a compromise because of cost or availability. Hey let the man know why you own an S2000.
If you really do want torque and quiet and four seats its time to save up and go car shopping.
