HELP
Confused by this statement. I wouldn't floor it at low rpm, which on this car is certainly higher than most. But if rpm is there, what harm is there in flooring it?
Sure, one could downshift if they really want to accelerate hard. But there are times when that just isn't necessary.
Again, not that this is preferred or done constantly, but not doing it ever? (Implying its somehow very wrong) I don't get that...

Thanks!
You need to rev this car to get power out of it! If you have to floor this car up hill on 6th gear you should be going over 90+mph already. Not bashing your driving, this car is just very different from everything else out there. Drive it like you stole it!
BTW going 63mph up hill and switching to 6th gear? Yeah the car would bog down. If I was in that situation I would still be in 3rd gear maybe considering going to 4th gear.

...and its not just about when yiu want to get power out of it. Just in daily driving around this car needs to be revved more than most any other just to keep things in safe rpm. The engines personality is more motorcycle than car. It needs revs.
A couple of good rules of thumb:
Never let rpms drop below 3k. Downshift before that happens. Thats for level ground. For hills the rpm threshold is higher (based on steepness, you just gotta learn when engine is happy to figure out what rpm for what hill at what car speed)
Minimum rpm to upshift should be around 4k. Again, thats for level ground, and for normal driving, not for spirited.
If you need to accelerate, that requires pressing throttle more than say, half way down, you should probably be downshifting if rpm is below say, 4k.
So that would be 3k minimum rpm threshold for dd, 4k for acceleration, at level ground. 4k minimum upshift threshold for dd.

^I'd agree with that. S2Ks feel completely gutless below about 4,000rpm. I shifted into 6th once just so I could check it's still there. Around town I'm rarely above 3rd. A spirited run on a windy road rarely needs more than 2nd and 3rd, with the odd excursion into 4th.
