help, intake worries
Hi everybody
I have had my s2000 for bout 6weeks now. About 3weeks ago I installed an AEM V2 cold air kit, really nice bit of kit and has been installed by the book.
I am getting increasingly worried about the rain problem (as I live in the uk lol)
I am considering a swap

ive heard bad things about the comptech though too.... different situations i guesse. considering the comptech is around $350 and the V2 is around $250 more or less. im considereing the V2 with a K&N water sock thing, umbrella, and plugging the drain hole.

other than the hood prop fitment, which i think is fixed now, i have heard nothing but good about comptech, i even considered one.
it rattles or vibrates on throttle, some ppl say its not worth its cause it still sucks up hot air because its not a true cai. im not sure everyone has different things to say. personally i have no experience but the one thing i see alot of ppl have is the vibrations. they said its something with the carbon fiver cover or something. im not sure if your getting that or not but the only reason i would buy the comptech was because of the carbon fiber. Also, personally since an intake system wont do much i figure i want it for the sound, comptech is still designed with a box so it still restrains alot of sound. but get whatever YOU like, the best thing to do
Check out the INJEN Pre-filters. They are a microfiber sock that goes over the filter and is water resistant. Just stay out of puddles that can cross the under carriage and plug the drain hole and you should be fine.
Also, check an dmake sure after a good rain that the last bed before the filter is not holding water, as it kind of runs uphill to the filter.
Might want to look into the INJEN RS intake if you want a "true" CAI (avoids radiator heat). You can install an AEM bypass valve, fabricate (or purchase) an umbrella, and get the pre-filter sock. This would pretty much reduce the risk of hydrolock (with the exception of partial submersion of the filter).
If you go with the Comptech, you might want to invest in a radiator plate. Usually CF, they help to block heat from radiating up from the top of the radiator and into the intake. Dunno how well this works, but it seems like a good idea.
