I'm with the guys who prefer to keep it stock, though I have made a few concessions, all but one of which are undoable (Rick's aeroscreen, lucid's panels & speakers, VTEC counter, and modifry's Interior Light Module which is the only thing not so undoable.) I like the spirit of the stock S2000, and how it was designed to do what it does. As an engineer myself (though I'm in software) I appreciate the tradeoffs the designers made and I approve of them.

I want to drive down the street 30 years from now & still have my Ginger turn heads, and know she's as close to original condition as I can manage (within the limits of reason - I'm not putting her in a glass display case!). Whether she's really worth anything then is very secondary.

Thanks Jonas. I was getting a little beat up by some here. Bieg is an ally however. I think it is a good idea to be able to convert an S2000 back to stock. My feeling is our car will not depreciate much if kept stock.

That's one thing that bugs me a little about this board (one of the few). It's assumed that you'll be modding your car (how many questions did I get asking what mods I'll be doing right after I got mine...), and if you say you're keeping it stock, the conversation drops dead, like there's nothing else to talk about.

I love reading about the mods people have done, the performance they've been able to achieve. It's just not for me to do to my car.

Were you out today? I went for a birthday drive at about 1pm!

Pixsurguy,
Doesn't your mouse have a little roller on the top? When you roll it, the screen goes down and you move on to another post. If you don't like what someone says, try using your mouse. Then you won't get upset at people, and raise your blood pressure.
I'm sure you don't like this, so roll it now.

It must be great to be able to see the future. Or at least have so much blind confidence that you think you can and no amount of argument can change your view. I am not blessed with this clairvoyance/pig headedness. I believe the dice are still in the air.

So to play devil's advocate on two sides I ask the following questions.

To the modders:
What will you say in 20 years time when a last of it's kind pristine S goes under the hammer at Sotherbys for 60 quantabillion credits? "I had one of those. I stuck a GT wing and 20 inch bling blings on it before trading it in for a Big Mac and Cyber Fries 10 years ago. Wish I'd kept it stock! I'd be rich now and could buy the Ferrari F80!"

To the puritans:
What will you say in 20 years, after keeping it stock, and not driving it on cloudy days, or even days that might be cloudy later on, so as to keep the duco original. Hey, she's still got less than 50K on the clock. What will you say when you are lined up at the car yard where there are another 300 S's on the lot at 5 credits each. "Ok, so it's not a collectors edition, but at least I didn't enjoy it! I should get at least 6 credits for mine 'cause it's got the original windshield washer fluid in it!"

I'm sure this post will upset the modders and the puritans equally, so at least I can't be accused of being biased. Annoying maybe, but not biased.

The question I will ask you all is;

"How many 20 to 30 year old sports cars (of the caliber of the S2000) in clean showroom stock condition can you buy cheap today?"

"Those who refuse to learn from history are condemed to repeat it."

And I will counter that with: "Who'd want to?"

Obviously none of us otherwise we would have saved a bomb and bought one of them instead for a quarter of the price.

And the only thing that makes those cars worth even the fraction of their purchase price (in real terms) is there scarcity. So if we all maintain our stock S2000's that guaratees they won't be worth much n the future.

I never think of this car as an investment. That way I'm thinking now, even if it's someday worth double what I paid for it, so what? To realize the gain, I'd have to sell it, and I can't imagine doing that. I worked a lot of years to save up for this car - it's the realization of a lifelong dream. You don't mess with or replace a dream.
