Time to verse yourself on the art of wetsanding. Chances are, you'll need to to get the door repainted. So, whydontcha just fill in the scratch with the touch-up paint (cynics- hold on... you'll see where I'm getting at), to the point that is is "higher" than the rest of your paint. Then wait 'till it dries and go at with some wetsanding paper. once it's all smooth (and coincidentally the paint around it has zero shine) bring the finish back with the proper polishes. I prefer 3M. Chances are, you can get it smooth, and get it shiny, but it DEFINATELY won't match the rest of the car. But, it's better than driving with a keymark on your car.

That's exactly what happened to my M Coupe. Fortunately, vandalism deductions are a lot less than other deductions (mine cost me $50 to get my car taken care of- and that included a rental!) This way you have a (infintessimally) small chance of fixing your paint yourself, and if you screw it up, well, you gotta take it in anyway.

Good luck.

use the oem touch up paint and langka (www.langka.com). it takes some patients, but you won't be let down!

DMX, if you try Lanka - you have to let us know the results!

It's truly a damn shame that vandalism like that happens and there's nothing you can do about it except be stuck with solving the problem and changing your ways.

One of my friends always asks why I don't bring the S2k when I stop for a couple brews with the boys. No. 1, it's to tempting to play boy racer and No. 2, well you know number 2. Sorry for situation.

I just use some small cotton washcloths, though beware, it does stain them. I got all my scratches out except for one that must have been a bit too deep because not only is it still barely visible, I now have a slightly lighter colored spot where I was working on it. Must've gotten down into the clear coat or something
Oh well, maybe I can find something to darken it back up a little, or time will do it for me...

DMX,

Check out this site:

http://store.yahoo.com/autopia/painchiprep.html

You will find a very detailed paint chip and scratch repair procedure. Once you read it, you may decide to head for the body shop and get the part repainted.

The home page is at: http://www.autopia-carcare.com. There you will find extensive detailing information and a link to Classic Motoring Accessories an associated company that sells high end detailing products and wonderful guidance. They will stay on the phone with you until your question is answered. If you happen to call them, ask for Jan. She really knows car detailing and will not try to sell you something you don't need. I don't own shares of stock in this company. Just have had good experience with them.

Sorry about your damage.

Man.....AUGS2000' scratched door looks BAD. It looks like those bastards were trying to be creative by drawing with their keys. Sorry to hear and see that!

THANKS EVERYONE for your advice and recommendations! I will look into all these suggestions and hopefully my keyed scratch marks will vanished.

Those BASTARDS will pay one day! They made my car look UGLY. Its hard to miss that 12 inch scratch. I'm tired hearing people ask me "Whoa..what happen there? Did someone scratched it?" It makes me and my car feel SAD.
