Default HELP! Taking trip, Safe without bumper?

Noob ?...I am taking a trip to Sugen this weekend to get a new rear bumper put on. I wanted to try to take off my rear bumper before I leave, but was just wondering if it is safe. Also, I have the directions of taking off the rear bumper thanks to Ludedude, but was wondering if anyone could tell me approximately how long it takes to take off if I have never done it before. Thanks!!!

Ryan

It should take about 15min tops. The bumper cover is cosmetic so safety is not a big issue just make sure you secure the bumper absorbers to the rear beam as to not lose them. Also you need to mount the rear license plate as that is mounted in the rear bumper cover.

You can't have them send you the bumper?

The tricky part for me was the light connector over the license plate. I had the toughest time reaching it and unhooking it. The nuts and fasteners were easy but that connector was difficult to disconnect.

It may be against a law to drive w/o a bumper, I would look into that. Isn't the bumper a safety factor?

Just a thought.

It was already stated above that the bumper COVER is purely there for cosmetic purposes. It does nothing except get mushed in the event of a collision.

Does anybody know if it is against the law to drive without one in Nevada or California? I am going there because the bumper is there and i am visiting a friend while i am at it.

Call your local police station and ask them what the law is, I wouldn't call it a bumper when you ask, according to Honda, it's a bumper FACE. The only problem is that the styrofoam peice is called an absorber and may be factored into the safety design of the bumper itself.

So, what's the worst that could happen? You get a fix it ticket? Even if you get pulled over and they say they are going to give you a fix it ticket, you could explain that you are driving there to get one right now, they may let you go, they may still ticket you but you can probably get out of it if you explain the situation.
