Default Help! Wind Noise (not typical reasoning)

Problem: Noise is coming from the front, above the rear view mirror. Yes, when I tug on it really tight, the noise decreases.

Background Info:

1)Previous to new Hardtop, no noise whatseover. (MY06 by the way) Perfect.

2)Got the new Hardtop, installed new strikers, and the new hardtop is perfect, no wind noise.

3)When I remove the hardtop and pull the soft top back on , there's a lot of wind noise now.

So, it's not a striker problem. I think it's because the HT is on pretty tight, the rubber seal at the top/front of the windshield, where the soft top connects, is compressed from the Hardtop, makes sense? So, the normal soft top isn't getting the original "seal" from the factory....anyone experienced this???

Thanks!

Is the HT OEM? I wouldn't imagine that the OEM HT would compromise the windshield seal. I'd say your HT is on too tight. Do you have shims under the front latches? Shims tend to ease the pressure on the windshield seal, whilst still maintaining a good seal on all the types of HT's. They also disperse the pressure on the HT corner edges preventing cracking/flexing in this spot.

put 1/4 inch aquarium air plastic tubing on the softop hooks to tighten the pull. Cheap and effective.

I solved the problem by latching the top and after latching it, I retract the top and hold the button in place for 1 second to let the top pull back. My problem though is that the top sits a tad above the seals so the wind catches on and creates noise.

just run it along the line of the windshield seal...esp. where you can hear the wind noise.
