Let me clear up both of those myths. Production is the same year round. There is no "slow time", etc. There may be a delay in getting the "next" model year out in the fall, but any other time it doesn't change.

Colors: As a Honda dealer, Honda allows me to choose the colors (and trims) of ALL of my cars/trucks. So if a dealer is telling you that it is a rare color, it is because he doesn't order it!!! There are absolutely no restrictions on colors of S2000s. If I wanted all of mine Suzuka Blue, I could.

Now, that being said, the majority of colors I order are silver, red, and black, with the occasional yellow, blue, and white thrown in. Those are the colors that sell best for me, and I don't want them sitting in stock for long.

FstONE,

I was able to get my '03 in December for $4 over invoice and I live in Atlanta. $29,789 + $1,787.34 (6% sales tax) + $18 (title) + $3 (warranty rights fee) = $31,597.34. There was no trade, no financing, and I didn't know anybody. Needless to say, those guys that you've been talking to are just playing their games.

I got the dealer listing map out of the newspaper and called almost all of the dealers in Atlanta. I told them that I'm looking for a silver S2000 and will buy when I find one at invoice. Almost all said that it would never happen because they could sell it to someone else for more. I just told them that if they could sell a car to someone else for more then that would be the smart thing to do, but reiterated that I was going to wait until I found one at invoice. I would also work in to the conversation that the car is in its 4th year of production (everyone that had to have one already does), others are buying the car at invoice, and the new 350Z is out (sales competition). Most still wanted me to come by and talk with them. I made a list of sales reps. and plans to hit about six dealerships on a Saturday. On Friday I got a call from a dealership that previously didn't have any S2000's on the lot. They said that if I bought on Friday I could have it for invoice. The reason was that the sales manager had an opportunity to get another one that was refused by another dealership and this particular dealership was trying to hit a sales goal to get a bigger allocation from Honda. I probably got lucky, but I think that the more dealerships you talk with the more likely you are to find one that will work a good deal with you.

Also, on visits to dealerships previous to December I found that some appeared to have no problems selling their S2000's and were therefore quite proud of them and others were very willing to talk. Honda Carland in Roswell and Ed Voyles on 41 seemed to be the most proud. Although Hennesey tried to act the same, they were quick to offer me an '02 at invoice in November. Hennesey still has five in stock (as of Wednesday), but they are rather difficult to deal with. When I visited the Honda dealership in Cartersville, they were very easy to deal with and didn't mess around. I actually spoke with the owner. They had two and offered them at a little over $800 (silver) and $1200 (red) invoice. I'd definitely give them a call.

Finally, if you run in to a sales manager that says there is no way that I or anyone else got an S2000 for invoice, then ask them if they will match the deal if you can provide them the paperwork. I'd be happy to provide you with mine to show them. Good luck.

This '02 Spa Yellow has been sitting inside the showroom since August.

Eight inches of snow on the ground doesn't exactly help convertible sales in Sheridan, Wyoming.

PM me if you want more info. I bet they'd let it go for near invoice.
