So..... maybe car and driver can try that test again with some new cars that have HID/Xxeon (sp) lights.?

I was just curious, it seems like i am either really lucky, or the cops just don't care, or... they are having trouble getting a reading on the "red flash". ahaha

RED RULES! (gregsteven's voice).

Search the web for companies that manufacture high-intensity IR LEDs, mount a bunch of them on your front license holder (or what have you), and power 'em up facing at various angles (no more than 5-10 degrees off of the line of your car should do it). Speed away!

I don't know about radars but I got stopped and ticketed by a laser. But it took him nearly 500 feet (I checked for my court appearance) to get a reading. It was pitch black, he was well hidden, and I didn't have the detector in the car!! The cop told me the laser reading was taken at 169 feet. So what Colins says is true.

You guys with all the radar problems have my sympathy. I got a new Passport radar detector for Christmas and still haven't detected a single police radar unit with it yet. I'm really bummed.

Radar just doesn't get used as much in California, especially this time of year. As soon as the spring weather conditions appear in late February or March, though, they'll be out there enjoying the weather while holding their radar guns. That's when I'm counting on the detector use to pay off.
