Highway Driving During Break-in
Actually, the part about not going over a certain speed while breaking in a car is not talking about breaking in the engine. It is because you are also breaking in THE REAR END. The rear gears produce a huge amount of heat during that initial break in period. If you do it at highway speeds, it is not the best for it.....
Of course, look at all the Tahoe owner, Camry owners, etc that buy the cars and just drive them, never having a problem. We just obsess over it because we are car nuts.
Personally, I'm buying and driving.

Just hit 600 miles on mine and I never knew about the break in period. I put 100 miles on it on the Interstate to get it home. I probably cruised around 80-85 all the way. I may have put another 50 miles on it around town before I got into the VTEC. I've gone thru 1st-4th in VTEC for an awesome launch and some times in 1st and 2nd. The engine purrs just fine. I keep checking the oil and it hasn't used a drop yet. This isn't my first new car so I didn't abuse the clutch/rear end and I let the engine break in a little before stepping on it. Since I didn't know about the 5.5K limit there's nothing I can do about it now.
I think the CRXsi didn't have a break in period either. I forgot all of that. I had 3 of them and ran them for all they were worth. The 91 was the best model and I regretted selling it until last week when I got my 05.
