I measured the trailer weight loaded, came out to weight 581 lbs. loaded with a 56 lbs. tongue weight.
I guess the 500 lbs springs probably would have worked ok because 581 lbs (-) 56 lbs tongue weight (-) 40 lbs unsprung weight of the wheels= 485 lbs on the springs.

Hello everyone, I stand a chance to buy my parents 03 S2k, and I am trying to figure out if I could make it work for my life. I joined the Navy about 5 months ago, and am currently going through a lot of training. This means moving to different stations, each time having a full seabag, a garment bag full of uniforms, possibly a guitar, a 20 in flat panel tv, plus at least 2 more duffel bags of various clothes. Obviously this is not all going to fit in the little s2000 for an all in one move.

I am posting this under this trailer topic because I am wondering if this might make it possible to hold some of my extra equipment for a long drive (possibly cross country). Any thoughts on using a trailer like this for about 200 lbs worth of stuff from Florida to California? I would also have use for the trailer because I do enjoy autocrossing (currently with a 95 Integra GS-R) so I will need some nice tires to compete at all. So I wont be spending the money just to move around occasionally. Any thoughts on towing a trailer or other options would be much appreciated.

200 lbs. is not a problem. I tow more than that on my autocross tire trailer and hardly notice the trailer. Keep the wheel bearings greased and the long distance shouldn't be a problem either. I would make sure you have a spare tire and a spare set of bearings and seals for any long distance trips. I haven't had to use my spares yet, but the bearings on the Harbor Freight trailers are not readibly available from the auto parts stores, so it's worth planning ahead.

To answer you question directly, a hitch and a small trailer would be perfect for this application.

To answer your question indirectly, does the Navy not have a relocation service when it transfers you? They should be able to ship your gear (sans a bag to keep with you while driving) and possibly even your car (not sure about this though) at little or not cost to you. Alternatively, if you're looking at cost, you can probably ship your gear for $50-100.

Of course, if you intend to use a trailer for other purposes, then it makes more sense to use it for your relocation as well.
