Well, I know for a fact that the older hyper version was NOT all stainless steel, and I had the newer hi-power version and that was also NOT all stainless steel. Is there another that I have never seen?
your right, i am wrong.

Thats great to hear S2000tuner - I've got a couple extra ?'s,

1. Is there only one kind of HKS exhaust? I believe you said you bought the HKS "HiPower" exhaust so I'm assuming that this is the only one available.

2. Could you (and any others who might have this setup) comment on the exhaust note at or near rpms. As far as stock cars goes, I've always liked the Germans for exhaust tone - cars such as the 3.2TT and the Boxster have a nice metallic rasp and deep growl to them, and I'm wondern how this HKS exhaust compares.

3. Do you feel any power benefit/drops from your "butt" dyno?
I have never seen or heard of the HKS all stainless steel...

The quality is really nice IMO.. The canisters are stainless steel..

I believe there is one type of HKS Hi Power which is the one most of us have on our S's... Just call Alex @ Invision 909.444.7708. I got my exhaust from him.. really nice service..

As far as the exhaust note, when you first turn on the car when the car is cold, it sounds near stock.. has a little more rumble and a little bit louder but very close to stock IMO.. The more you drive the car, the louder the exhaust gets.. barely any drone and if there is any once the exhaust is totally heated up after 30 min of driving, it will be about 3k rpms (drone)..

Overall, REALLY nice tone IMO.. this is better for someone like me that wants something just a bit louder than stock, very subtle...

#1) The HKS doesn't weigh much less than stock. I've got a spare in my garage right now and I'll check it tonight to put this to rest.

#2) The current HKS is called the Hi-Power "409". I believe it uses 409 stainless (a lessor grade than what they use for the canisters, 304?) for the piping. IIRC, 409 stainless can develop some minor surface rust over time (hence the need to coat still), but is far more resistant to rust out and so should provide longer life than non-stainless.

#3) The HKS is definitely louder than stock, particularly in the low end, but it's still relatively low on the loudness scale. With the stock pipe, from inside the car you can just barely hear the exhaust over the mechanical sound of the motor. With the HKS it's switched around to where the exhaust is prominent you don't really hear the motor until it starts to get wound up (say 4500-5000ish and on into V-TEC).

This morning before work I weighed the four pieces of the HKS together with all the nuts/bolts/gaskets needed for assembly, and it came to approximately 43 lbs. Then while I was driving to work it hit me that I should have gone ahead and weighed the stock pipe since it's still leaning up against the wall in my garage too. I'll check that tonight just to verify, but it looks like the HKS is only around 10 lbs lighter than stock. It sure sounds a whole lot better though .

Please let us know. I have been asking about the weight gains for months now in my search for exhaust, but have not been able to get a straight answer. Everything so far, much like the rest of this thread, has been unmeasured conjecture.

Well Formula, hopefully none of the aftermaket exhausts will give you weight gains as you say , but I know what you mean. So final results are in...

Last night I grabbed the scale and proceeded to weigh my OEM pipe. I was a little surprised when it came in at only 48 lbs.... so I weighed it again and yep, still only 48 lbs. Just for kicks I reweighed the HKS and yep, it was still 43 lbs. As I'm putting the scale away I'm still thinking about the OEM weight and then it hit me I did a resonatorectomy on the OEM pipe 2 1/2 years ago which I wasn't accounting for. I had weighed the resonator back when I had it removed, and it was 5 lbs.... Just to make everything kosher, and since I still had it laying around, I went ahead and weighed it again and yep, still 5 lbs.

So after all that we're back to where we were yesterday:

OEM (including resonator) = 53 lbs.
HKS = 43 lbs.

10 lb weight savings from the HKS.... probably just about makes up for the Amp and Sub in my trunk .

Thanks. Been waiting for someone to actually weigh the exhaust. Now all we need is to have someone actually dyno the stock exhaust Vs. the HKS exhaust to finally put to rest the whole "but I heard it loses power so I hate it and I hope it dies..dies by fire!" argument. Maybe I'll just do it when I get mine, haha.

Seems like most HKS owners are happy enough w/ their systems not to feel the need to waste $50 to measure miniscule HP changes in either direction.
