Honda Needs to Raise the Bar
I'm not buying into this horsepower war either... Its just a number, who cares? 240HP, 287HP, 300HP? In the end, our 240HP S2000 is right along side the 287HP 350Z. Throwing more displacement at it isn't always the right answer.
As for a AWD 300HP Civic, sorry this will never happen. The STi and Evo have a deep history in rally racing. Why would Honda suddenly decide to make a car based on the Civic platform to complete with the STi and Evo? It would serve no purpose...

well, correct me if I'm wrong, but when Honda offers different trims of a car like the civic or accord, it cost more money, b/c they have to customize each car for the customer along with options. It is ok with an accord or civic, since they sell so many. So they make the money back in a sense. with the S, sales are not as abundant, so they decided to make the car with minimal options, and one trim.
I agree, making an "s2200" won't make me wanna buy one, unless it just looks super sweet. But I defintely don't want to get rid of my current S. I think the car is good as designed. I think they designed the car to be fast, fun, and appealing. You'll be hard-pressed to find cars that fulfill these criteria. Look at your options. either the car is fast, but ugly and not really all that fun to drive. or it's sharp-looking, but slow, and yet still not that fun to drive. the s2000...what do you think?
I feel you nastinupe, but it seems like honda is goin about things the right way.

Has anyone seen the Civic Nation commercials and ads? What is Honda trying to emulate? You have 1 regular civic followed by 6 modded civics. Honda has recognized the growing interest in civic modding. I see more modded civics than S2000's on the road. In fact, almost 20% of the civic's I see are modded. And I live in Tennessee. I'm sure that if I were in California, I would see more.
I have also noticed that many companies are making a killing selling aftermarket Honda parts. vtec controllers, superchargers, CAI, etc.
Every import magazine I pick up has a modded Honda on the front of it.
There were probably more Hondas in F&F than any other car brand.
It's like Honda isn't getting the message. I beleive that Honda is missing an opportunity to take a bigger share of the market.
Im not sure if you guys remember the Mazda Protege MP3. It was an externally modded Protege with no extra hp. Within one year, Mazda realizd that people wanted more power and increased the hp of the car by like 40 horses. This change only took one year. After which, that special edition Protege was being sold before it even hit the show room floors.
The same with the Sti, and Evo.
Infiniti has jumped on the HP bandwagon and turned their entire division around.
Mercedes has as well by adding an AMG model to each class and increasing performance across the board and is posting the highest sales numbers in it's 100 year history.

Please realize that I am a 26 year old with a lead foot and a need for speed. I'm sure that everyone goes through this phase in their life where more power is better.
Maybe after I have the opportunity to own several sports cars, I will start to appreciate other aspects of the S2000. I already admire it's ability to stick to the road like glue. I also admire the car's classic and simple lines. I love the cockpit and only wish it were a few inches wider. Other than that, I am truly happy with my car.
I am suprised that I only read one remark that was clearly in my favor. Maybe I am one of the few S2000 owners that wants more power. But if that's so, then why are so many people modding their car to go faster?
I'm not a mod freak. I'd rather just let Honda do the work, buy the car fast, and be happy.
So Honda... if you're listening. 250hp is all we need. Don't give us anymore. We'll be happy with the 10 hp increase.

Nastinupe,
Let me clarify my position. I'm not opposed to more power. I'd love to have more. I added a CAI which gained me a few HP. I'm planning on putting in 4.44 gears which will be the equivalent of boosting the HP. I just don't think it's a necessity and don't think Honda should get into the "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality as they decide the future of the S2000.
