Hello I'm hoping dwight or someone can help me. I need to order a spare key for my 05-s2000.
Dwight mentions #23 and #24 keys....are these numbers coming off the parts list breakdown from the hondapartsnow.com website??
part #'s 35111-S2A-306 and 35113-S9A-A01 ??
can I simply order one of these, and get it cut and programmed ....usually without getting the "stealership" involved??
thanks I have read several threads on the whole key thing....lots of conflicting info out here....appreciate some clarification.

I bought an oem blank key for my AP1 like 6 years ago and been procrastinating getting it cut & ecu programmed, lol.
Always been getting quotes from local Honda stealerships and they usually say $140-250+ for cut&program.
Then I've noticed some mention locksmiths can do it. So I went on yelp, and contacted like 8-10 diff local car-locksmiths for a quote... asked how much to cut&ecu-program my oem blank. They were all similar at around $75-100.
All you need is the OEM blank. I bought both the key and fob off ebay and had a local lock smith handle the cutting. I did the programming. The keys aren't special in any way nor is the immobilizer. Dealerships make them sound that way so they can charge you 10X what it really costs. You can even handle the immobilizer programming yourself if you are marginally handy.

Immobilizer programming is easy with a Zed-Bull type device if you have an existing programmed key that you can use to copy. If you are looking to program all keys, an SBB type device plugs into your OBD port to program all keys that way.
A long time ago I had a locksmith cut switchblade keys for my Acura TSX (looks like AP1 style keycuts). The parts guy at the dealer cut my CRV key using my VIN number and proof of registration for about $30 at the time (the AP2 style).
Good luck with the programming, it's really not that hard if you have the device.
It really does not apply to the S2000 but my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee will program the keys itself. You must have 2 original keys and follow the flow pattern ending with inserting the new cut key in the ignition and waiting about 10 seconds for the magic to happen (key light goes out on the dash)
Presto! new programed key. Wish the S did that.
Buy a fob and blank key from ebay have a locksmith cut the key and program the Immobilizer for you; they can do this by just cloning your key it's not very expensive
Clone Key
Program the Fob Yourself
This is very simple to have any competent Locksmith do, cheaply. Here's a picture of my eBay key. The immobilizer programming can be done right at the locksmith. Dealerships only make it sound special so they can sell you $300 keys. Don't go to home depot, or your local hardware store unless you know they're competent. Find a local locksmith.
