How did it get the name S2000?
Sorry, I meant my comment in jest.
This is the best I can do to stop people from arguing about the AP1 versus AP2 argument:
AP1 versus AP2 in Japan, both using the 2.0L Engine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQjSRu5MY5o
F20c versus F22c (both AP2s) in Japan:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuTtLYhFJT4
The results from these videos? AP2 with F20C was faster than AP1 with F20c. AP2 with F22C was just as fast as AP2 with F22C. This isn't a 100% scientific test, different drivers and all. But, its the best I've seen.
The truth is, the S2000 no matter what version is a great car and there's no reason we should be arguing about AP1 versus AP2. It also has a great history, with the S500, S600, and S800. I've actually been fortunate enough to goto the Honda Collection Hall in Motegi, Japan and checkout the originals that the S2000 is based off of. Its awesome, and I love the fact that such a great car also comes with a great history.

It's not you, LiQUiD iCE, but the ignorance continues.
Look at SCCA club racing results and the results at the Solo Nationals, rather than one isolated video. Anyone who can read the results and understand what they tell us, or anyone who knows more than zip about the development history of the car, should be behond the point of bickering about which MY is "better." We've sure as hell discussed it enough here for anyone to have gotten the story straight by now, but obviously all the discussions were just a waste of time, becuase the bickering still continues, and the quality of the bickering hasn't improved at all. In fact, it just gets dumber with age.
And NOW we can't even duscuss the history of the cars name without the AP1/AP2 monkey boys soiling the thread. It's really very sad, because these people don't have a clue what a fine they own. If they did, they wouldn't be having these never ending debates.
It's all goodLiQUiD iCE;
My comments weren't really directed at you, but rather at the general atmosphere that promotes this kind of endless BS and senseless debating. It will never end, because ignorance knows no bounds.
-----------------------------
SheDrivesIt, I don't think people make this kind of garbage up on purpose. It's a matter of finding the information that supports what they want to believe, and ignoring everything else, and I think it's just human nature. It's something you have to deal with constantly in R&D. What I don't understand is why it is always the SAME people. No matter how many times they are exposed to reality, they still live in some kind of dream world, clutching to the facts that make their dreams seem more real, and ignoring everything else. It would be bad enough if they just had their weekly threads to continue their stuipd arguments, but that's no longer enough. Now they're invading other threads in their attempts to support their deluded egos, and frankly, I'm more than a little sick of their BS and smack talk.
IMO, anyone who has been on S2kI for more than a couple weeks should have learned enough to be beyond this kind of BS, but obviously I expect too much.

You know guys, I never knew what the S officially stood for until now.
I mean I had ideas, but I think this pretty much confirms that it stands for "Sports":

im kinda thinking if you had to ask that, y did you buy the car
so what your trying to say is, if you liked the name the car was given you would buy it purely for the name?
i don't think so!
If there was a Quad turbo V12 car called the Bumjack i mean id still buy it if i could afford it.
Ok so after reading this thread and being violated with a AP1 vs AP2 fight, I have come to the conclusion thanks too PeaceLove&S2K that the 'S' means Sports!
So now we have too find out what the 2000 means? Displacement?

The 2000 refers to the displacement (or at least is used to).
I bought a book about Honda Sports in the early 1990s. Its in Japanese and has a ton of cool pictures. I also have a reprint of the original USDM S800 brochure. Facinating stuff, really.
