How do you decelerate?

I agree with the sentiments posted - keep the car in gear when stopping (just before you stall out, of course).
Coasting in neutral is dangerous if you are faced with an emergency situation where you need to speed up. The split second you need to put the car back into gear may make all the difference.

If someone is tail gating me, only happens in traffic, otherwise I'm well ahead of them, then I brake slowley so they have the benifit of break lights. I'll also leave a few extra feet in front of me incase I need to move forward a bit to avoid the idiot behind me.
I completely agree with the concept of keeping the car in gear while breaking, and only pop it in nuetral when getting close to coming to a stop. Of course this is different than the "two feet in" rule when racing, but that is usually only reserved for O Sh*t moments, and to prevent stall in the middle of the track where you'll get pegged.
Mostly if I'm driving at all aggressivly I'll downshift and rev match, always rev match on downshift.
Did anyone mention handbrake?

Having the car in neutral when it's moving is actually illegal in some states (AZ for sure)

Cop rides around in your passenger seat, watching to see if you slip the stick into neutral. If you do, he writes you a ticket.
