How do you "drop the clutch"?

I'm not sure I used the term correctly, I mean I get the rpm's up to 5-6K and slowly let the clutch out so that I am moving a little before the clutch is fully out.

I think feathering hurts the clutch and sidestepping hurts the diff etc.
Feathering allows a little slip so that the gears dont engage at the rpm instantly. This gives the diff a smoother engagement but is not as good for your clutch
By sidestepping the clutch you are putting an impact load onto diff since there are small enough spaces between the teeth. If the clutch grips then there is little damage done there but if your tyres dont break loose then your in trouble.

Thats right. If you dump it too low your not going to break the tyres loose and that is going to hopefully make your clutch slip and not damage your diff. This is bad
