We ran a poll on this on the U.K. Board some time ago and it was quite surprising how many people intended to keep the car for a second warranty period or longer, the vast majority in fact! We'll see how it pans out.
I'm another one of those whose always got the 2 year itch!

I like the majority of board members before me have an obsession with changing cars every couple years or less. I have only owned one car that to this day I regret getting rid of. It was a 93 Prelude with 4WS. That was until now. I love my S2000, and I've finally found a car to make me forget about the Prelude. So, I will hang onto the S2000 for a long long long time or until another S2000 comes out that is better. That is unless I hit the lottery and then I will by my dream car a Porsche 911 turbo, and since I don't play the lottery the S is mine. I'd still keep the S even if I had a 911.

About 5 years. I figure that the S2K should be up for a major face lift at that time

I don't have mine yet, it's on order. I usually keep vehicles for a long time and I don't see why the S2000 would be any different. However, I wasn't in the car market before January when I saw a picture in the paper of the Pontiac Solstice concept car from the Detroit Auto Show. I have never had a car grab me like that. It turned into a serious case of the "wants" and since it's a concept car, it's at least a couple years away from production if ever. So, I started looking around for an obtainable roadster and quickly started wanting an S2000. If GM does bring the Solstice to production, and if they don't screw it up getting it there, I might have to consider trading for it. However, those are pretty big if's, and I don't even have my S2000 yet. Who knows, after I drive it for a while, I may not even care if the Solstice ever comes out.

If my previous new car purchase (an 1987 MR2) is any indication I will be keeping my S2k at least 15 years and perhpas more. The one thing that will make me get rid of the S is if it starts giving me mechanical problems. I can't stand a unreliable car. A great handling fun to drive car is great but if it's unreliable I will get rid of it in a heartbeat.

I saw it on tv and it got my attention too. It's supposed to be out in 2005 and they said it should be in the 20K range.

I keep my cars for very long periods of time, I go through trucks every 5 or 6 years.

I have had my CRX-Si for 12 years and I am just now replacing it with an '02 Spa. I suspect it will take me longer to get to a point where I'm ready to sell the Spa. After 10 years of track events I have decided I have gotten just about enough out of the CRX-Si, and I know the S2000 has more to teach me!

To various posters:

Porsche951 - I'm planning on 10 years,... or maybe until I can no longer find replacement parts (25 years?).

BobS2000 - Maybe if I was a big player in the only really profitable area of the web ;-), I could keep up with your fabulous car buying streak! Until then I'm surviving on SysAdmin pay.

Triple-H - I know the feeling I am trying to part with my 1990 Civic Si, it has been 12 years and I know it is nothing compared to my S2K, but it is still fun and sooo cheap to drive!
