Default how to shift for best performance

So yesterday im sitting at a red light and this punk pulls up with his 99/00 eclipse GT (stock as far as I can tell). Now I know that I should be able to take him but he actually kept up with me through the first two gears. I started pulling away when the 3rd gear went into V-tech.

I know there are guys on here that post stuff like:

Kill list mustang GT, eclipse, MR2, RX8, BMW Z3..............................

im sure some of these guys have mods on their S's but my question is, on a stock S like mine whats the best RPM to shift at to beat punks at red lights.

I usually shift at 7500 to 8000 in these situations. Should I be taking it all the way to 8900? Does it make that much of a difference?

The problem is if you short shift then you fall out of VTEC in your next gear.

Also, in case you didn't know, when the lights hit the redline, it actually flashes 3 times before fuel cutoff, there is a lot more reving to go

When you see the flashing red light at the end of the tach, it's time to shift.

Stop street racing!
Take your S2000 to the track. While you are at it, please take driver's ed course.

what's with all these patronizing smart-ass remarks
he never asked for the approval to street race, he asked about shift points
if the man wants to street race, then he should be able to
scguy, keep rippin' em

Im not sure I would consider this street racing. I never actually got above the speed limit. And I don't need driver's ed course, after 12 years I think I've kinda figured it out, I just enjoy the occasional "aggressive driving" from red light to red light.
Thanks to everyone for their input. To be honest ( and Im sure some of you are going to call me a pu%%y) I haven't actually taken the car pas 8k RPM yet. I've only had the car for 6 weeks now and I'm still trying to get comfortable with the whole ideal of high revving but man its addictive.
I should see 9K soon
