It's not so simple. I've done it three or four times as part of my experiment with mounting a Valentine One in the secret compartment door. You have to remove the entire compartment assembly -- the screws under the center console, in the back of the compartment itself, and behind the compartment (which are most easily accessed with the roof down). One it's out, the door comes off by removng some screws and playing with the sliders, the details of which I forget at the moment.

In other words, it's a PIA and you shouldn't attempt it unless you have very good reasons for doing so.

 

Yep... you have to remove all the rear trim and side trim... Fun I tell you!!
Especially those push in type fasteners.
