How to tell a s2000 engine
This is aside from figure it out the s2000 engine. I was surfing the forum and an idea come to light. You know how some place have premium fuel as low as 90 and some as high as 94(94 is the highest I've ever seen)? Say one person have 90 and the other have 94. And consider both cars are stock with same setup. Would the car with 94 octane pull little faster than the 90? Just a side topic from this thread.
dude there is not another motor that you can swap into an S2000 without serious serious modification, and if some one was going to go threw the hasle of doing a custom swap into a car its going to be a faster motor not slower
just look under the hood and compare to your motor, the f20 is a distintive motor, you can confuse it with another motor
do what they said, compression test, clean injectors, clean/replace fuel filter, clean/replace spark plugs
things like that
also to your other question no that little change in octane level on a stock car will not change performance

does either your car or his have aftermarket rims?
what mods does your car have and what mods does his car have?
if you're both similary modded or not-modded, and you both have stock rims, then i'd be concerned there could be a problem with the engine.

the car calls for 91 or higher octane.
on your 90 vs 94 question, yes the car with 94 CAN be faster WITH A NEW ECU. The US market S2000 is tuned to work at 91 octane. The closer you are to this (>=91) the better. To get max power, you want to use the LOWEST acceptable octane rating. That rating is 91.
Now, a car with 94 CAN be faster, but the ECU must be tuned with ignition mapping to take advantage of this. Take Japan for instance. The S there makes 250HP I believe. Of course, in Japan they have 98 octane at the pump, and the Japanese S2000 is tuned for that.
Running a japanese ecu on US pump gas is not recommended.

You realize of course that the octane ratings of gasoline are measured differently in the US than in Europe or Japan right? 98 octane in Japan doesn't translate directly to 98 octane here.
WTF? I'm going to state the obvious on this one and say that you and your friend don't know anything about Honda motors. I hate to be an ass hat but this has to be the most ludicrous question I have ever heard concerning an S2000... It makes my head hurt to read it, LOL.

I'm glad someone said it.
