Default Hypothetical Question about increasing redline

Some questions about redline:

1. if the redline increases (choose your favorite method) can you "reprogram" the RPM indicator to reflect your new rpm range?

2. not worrying about engine damage, it is theoretically possible to increase the redline via changing the software that controls the cutoff?

3. assuming you want 10k miles out of your engine. how high can stock engine be run past factory redline settings?

P.S. I hope this is the right section to post questions like this...

1. No, you would need to buy a Tach that went to the desired RPM's

2. Yes engine management devices can move fuel cut (redline) they can even remove it completely (but you would need to be very careful if it was removed)

3. See answer #2

remember just moving the redline is not going to make the car faster or make more power. The OEM cams in the S are only designed to make power to a certain RPM. Raising the RPM's above above that point and it will result in losing power. The valvetrain is also only designed for a specific peak rpm going above that will cause damage.

Good Luck

When i first got my car i asked much the same set of questions, after all the original engine was 9000 rpm and this one is stroked and does 8000 easily...i think the new one can do 9000, someone here reported they did it...but i agree...honda put alot of smarts into this engine, it is an amazing feat to get it to rev so high and put out so much hp with such a small displacement. i am not aware of any mods you can do to increase rpm, hp in a big way...without sacrafice in reliability and or a major rebuild and change of cpu program somehow depending on model year.

i was interested in vetc coming on sooner, at a lower rpm...same answer, the design of the system is very good right out of the box.

As long as you can keep torque constant you should see a hp increase the higher you go. However, torque drops off up high like that, so it'll most likely be worthless unless you're adding power elsewhere.

Why do you want to rev higher? Is it for bragging rights or for a purpose?

Just wait for the guys that are running AP1 ECU on AP2 to report back. There is a long thread on this topic in the AP1 ECU on AP2 thread. Most of what you are looking for and more will be in there.

just increasing redline with no other modifications is just not smart

if you look at a dynograph of a stock AP1, you will see the closer you get to fuel cutoff *at around 9200rom* you lose power

That dyno plot loss of torque was so sharp many of us considered that artificially induced. Never did find out for sure. Didn't the early Spoon motor rev much higher?

If spoons S revs that much higher, I bet it had cams and cam gears and tuning to make power up that high.

On a stock head it just does not make sense other than for bragging rights.

you know, ive always thought about throwing an f20c crank into an f22 block with custom rods, supposing its got more deckheight than the f20 block. i think 10,000 rpm would be no problem at all with the right cams.

seeing as f22's can hit 9000 with its lower r/s ratio, im sure the stock f20 bottom end could handle 10,000 rpm max as it is.
