I am a modded BMW 330i owner, and Have the chance to purchase a 2004 s2k.....
Hi everyone,
As just stated, I own a BMW 330i. I put alot of time and money into it already and have modded as far as my auto-transmission will take me....I know I know....AUTO!?!
I have always liked the s2k, and have a chance to purchase a 2004 with 1000 miles on it. The guy is selling it for 29,000.
Should I sell the 330i and get the s2k? I don't need an everyday car out of the s2k, because I have a Jeep Wrangler as well....so I am ok with that aspect. How does the price look?
How is the mod scene for the 04's?
thanks
John

How about sell the 330i and get a brand new 04 for $2K more? This way you know it's been broken in properly. As far as mods go for 04's, 4IG CAI adds 18 hp and 20 lbs of torque to the wheels

the mod scene from what I have seen, is just about as booming as any other performance japanese car, if not more. The amount of support, parts, and enthusaists for this car are much more than those for your 330i...and it's even bigger in Japan. I think you'll have much more fun with the S2000...I once was really into German cars and sorta still am but suddenly my enthusiasm for them has gone down the drain. I've always had the thing for Japanese sports cars and suddenly feel the urge to sell my Audi for an S2000. I had the chance to drive a 330i on a test track once and the torque from the engine in stock form was great so I can only imagine what a modded one such as yours is like...however, the S2000 gives a totally different feeling. It's actually fun to drive...I can't really say that about a 4-door German sedan that much. I test drove the S2000 today and WHAO totally different feel...I think you'll enjoy it. But yes, I would buy a brand new one if I were you.

The modability of the 04s will likely be better than the previous ones. Just looking at a dyno graph shows you that there is more power to be had up top if you stretch the redline a little.
But at the same time, don't expect an easy ~40-60 hp or so because as history has shown with all other honda motors (except the RSX), they just don't respond well to mods.

My every day driver is a Bimmer 530. same engine as yours. BMW are great cars. Iif I have to be in an accident some day I would like to be in my BMW at the time. If the BMW is all you drive, they are the best car in the world. However, driving the S2000 is the most fun you'll ever have driving a car. Buy the S, keep the 330, sell the Jeep. Continue to mod both.

Are you familiar with manual transmissions? If not, then definitely buy that '04 with 1,000 miles on it.
However, if you're experienced with a manual trans. I'd buy a brand new S2000 for just a few thousand more.
