I agree. The S-series debuted June 1962 at the meeting of Japan's Honda Dealer's Association at the still under construction Suzuka Circuit. The S360 introducted there was a mini sports car, driven by Soichiro Honda onto the main straight of the circuit. This was a protype of the car that would appear at auto-show later that year. By the time it actually made production it became the S500, followed by the S600, and S800... and finally many year's later the S2000.

The Japanese owner's of the older S cars refer to them as the Honda Sports series. So I'll be surprised if you find out it stands for anything else but who knows... it could. Let us know.
