Default I Have a Dilema

A while ago I sold my 07 civic Si and found myself an in an Apex Blue Pearl 08 s2k cr. I love the car and everything but I really want to start doing some HARD driving haha. I don't street race or anything and I haven't tracked this car yet so I'm itching to do some real driving. Drag racing is cool but not why I bought this car. I'v been throwing around the idea of an s/c but i don't street race and don't drag. Not only that, it isn't exactly a good drag platform to start with. I always loved corners and I really want to go to an HPDE or something similar. Here is the dilema. I have a new car as my fun/dd. I see what happens at tracks and basically, if I wreck it I'm totally screwed financially and emotionally haha. These are the options I am considering.

A: Daily drive the s2k and pick up an old miata/civic/240 for track time.

B. Pick up a daily civic and track the s2k.

C. Sell the s2k for a proper dd and track car.

My goal is to get my ass on the track and have some fun. I won't be able to do that in my s2k if its my only car because I will be scared of wrecking it and won't drive it hard

There are always risks. If you cant afford to lose your dd, I would go with any of the two car options.

Why not just "A" get yourself an older AP-1 S2000. Problem solved.

I say put the CR to use as a pleasure ride, buy a proper DD. Option B would be the closest. Remember low mileage unmolested Cr's are going to be the sought out S someday other than low mileage unmolested AP1's

I basically feel the same way about tracking mine, but hey why not get the most out of what you are paying for you know? I've done mostly drag racing and street racing during my import years but i had a miata on nitrous before all my civics and really loved the handling. I love honda engines and i love the miata platform. that is why i bought the S. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!! i've only had it about two months now and it really took the first three weeks for me to finally say **** it and I drive the shit out of it. In my opinion, drive it like you want. Stuff happens but who cares, that's why you bought the car! Its just money, have fun with your purchase man and good luck on your tracking with whatever you decide to do! Nothing i have ever driven in my short lifetime has compared to the fun i have in my S, so i can't imagine it not being the platform i would put on the track.

Another idea is to buy yourself a cheap AP1. If you are just going to beat it up anyway, there are some really good deals on rebuilt title ap1's. There is one on here for sale for 7300! but even clean title ones ive seen with around 100k for 8-9000. Just an idea.

I would tend to disagree with that, i would say all unmolested s2k's are going to be sought after here shortly, but not neccessarily the CR. Most people i know and have seen on these boards don't really care for the CR. To each there own, but i really think s2000s will be collector cars one day, they are just amazing

Get your feet wet with autocross in the CR and step up to a dedicated track car when you are ready. That way you have low risk fun now and go flat out when the time is right.

Remember its not the current owners that will drive the collector market its the current non-owners that discover it in the future. One thing that is a given in the car collecting world the rarer the more valuable. The CR is the rarest and it is also the purest in it has no frills, now if only Honda had done it correctly and brought back the AP1 motor for it.

The lest expensive (initially) lowest risk to yourself and car. Learn the basics, have fun and then decide if you wish to pursue it further.
