Remember its not the current owners that will drive the collector market its the current non-owners that discover it in the future. One thing that is a given in the car collecting world the rarer the more valuable. The CR is the rarest and it is also the purest in it has no frills, now if only Honda had done it correctly and brought back the AP1 motor for it.
and ditched the throttle by wire BS and traction control, that is another reason i think 05's will be a prized jewel too, due to the last year of the throttle cable. That is a HUGE plus in my book. That is why I couldnt buy an 06 up. It totally ruins a car in my eyes. I could deal with it, but its not ideal you know? and ive heard that with a reflash it makes throttle response almost instant, but for a true enthusiast driver i would think you could still tell. My GTI i had for a few weeks lol had it, and it bugged the crap out of me. Then again i havent driven a reflashed one so i can't say from that perspective.

PS- sorry for the thread highjack

I suppose one could say the same for a pesky air pump ,not present on my 06' model. But who's talking. TBW as far as I'm concerned is a non-issue.

The only performance that it hurts that I am aware of is "wallet performance" when it decides to act up. As far as I know it's a low emssions start-up device to appease the snail savers. It's not a new concept by any means. At least the S2000's air pump isn't belt driven.

If you're planning to hit the track a lot, it's hard to beat a Miata in terms of fun factor, near indestructibility, and low total cost of ownership.

Keep the CR for your DD unless/until it becomes burdensome, then you can replace it w/ something more practical if necessary.

I'd think an 03 would be a more prized jewel than an 05. Last of the cable throttle with the original 9k redline.

That's what I'd be looking for 20 years down the road. But then again, I'd have to replace the top due to wear so it wouldn't be all original anyway.

A while ago I sold my 07 civic Si and found myself an in an Apex Blue Pearl 08 s2k cr. I love the car and everything but I really want to start doing some HARD driving haha. I don't street race or anything and I haven't tracked this car yet so I'm itching to do some real driving. Drag racing is cool but not why I bought this car. I'v been throwing around the idea of an s/c but i don't street race and don't drag. Not only that, it isn't exactly a good drag platform to start with. I always loved corners and I really want to go to an HPDE or something similar. Here is the dilema. I have a new car as my fun/dd. I see what happens at tracks and basically, if I wreck it I'm totally screwed financially and emotionally haha. These are the options I am considering.

A: Daily drive the s2k and pick up an old miata/civic/240 for track time.

B. Pick up a daily civic and track the s2k.

C. Sell the s2k for a proper dd and track car.

My goal is to get my ass on the track and have some fun. I won't be able to do that in my s2k if its my only car because I will be scared of wrecking it and won't drive it hard
If you're on a limited budget and want to drive "HARD" then I'd do what other people suggested and do an autocross school first. Not an event, but a school. Lots of local clubs have them. Minimal wear and damage to your car.

Much cheaper and easier than track. I'd stay away from track until you have more financial flexibility.

EDIT: a lot of my friends have done "ChumpCar" or 24 hours of Lemons. Cheap car, doesn't matter if it gets destroyed, tons of track time (if you don't break your car). The premise is starting with a $500 car and racing that. The most expensive part is personal safety equipment.

I say pick option B. You will break something no matter what kind of racing you will do. You gotta pay to play when it comes to any form of racing. I'm sure you already know that. Your CR is already race ready out of the box. Use the car for what it was designed for. Who the hell cares about the value of your car. S2ks will never reach 100k value during our/your lifetime, so enjoy the car and get your money's worth.

I got the impression he was concerned about physical damage rather than wear. If he's on a tight budget and wrecks his car, he could be upside-down on his loan... if insurance even covers it.
