Angry I miss the CEL

I never been a mechanic, and never been a tuner.

My basic skills are enough for weekend diy projects. I was able to fix and take out a civic engine by myself.
Tune wise? I understand the basic principle of afr, and map graphs. But I never been good at modifying tables and calibrating stuff.

I use to run Chrome Pro on a p28 emulated ecu. Still, if something went wrong I had the CEL. Pulled the code and went to check what triggered it.

Those days are gone, I'm a happy owner of a my03 ap1. The car had 25k when I bought it with some mild mods on it. (AEM, S2 stg2 Cams, s2 TB, invidia test pipe, lower springs...)

Time has come for the first issue to arise. But Since I have the AEM... no CELs are on... so it's time for the GFOUWW! What's that? it's like a check engine without the bright yellow right, but with a bigger pain sensation. GFOUWW means "GO FIGURE OUT YOURSELF WHAT'S WRONG"

This is the pita part when u need to do what the CEL module do for you. pinpoint what sensor is not working.

This community is really helpfull. I was able to pinpoint a map sensor problem... tried the map whack... no results. Pulled the map out and found it has a crack.. so it was leaking. put a new map on and car doesn't die at stops, but it stills idle rough and misfires at constant speeds/rpms

So now? well, I will go foward to check for vacuum leaks, bad coils or maybe the the ex owner got it tuned with the failing MAP so I have a wrong tune running on.

I miss the Check Engine Light...

Do u have similar stories?

CEL is your friend. It takes a lot of the guess work out of fixing shit. It's not idling properly, check your tps and iacv. If those are good, you might need to retune it.

I went stand-alone on one of my older Civics... It was a complete pain in the ass. It was my only car. Never again(unless I have another car to drive to work).

I agree.

I cleaned the IACV and the TB passages as well. TPS looked good. But I will check it too.
