those were the exact symptoms that my car has. currently it's been at the dealer for more than 20 days. they are waiting for my valve spring and retainers to arrive, for they found out that was the problem. at first they swapped the ignition coils and the problem was fixed, but the same day, it started to backfire and the engine light started blinking on/off again. so i took it back, and they took my engine apart and said my valves were floated. but it's being replaced under warranty.

I am going to mention your situation to the service manager, he very receptive and may be able to get with your service manager for more elaboration to see if indeed it is the same situation. Can youpost your dealership, svc. writer's name, car color and year. It would be appreciated.

Another longshot might be a loose ground.
