Mazda's 3.636 ring and pinion is a direct drop-in, I believe. It'll give you almost exactly the same shift points (in mph) as the AP1 setup.

everyone else wants shorter gears for faster acceleration but you want the opposite?

It's possible that you'd be able to hit 60 by simply dropping in an AP1 transmission. I'd even be willing to trade you even for your 06 tranny
"Possibly" is the operative word. If you drop in the AP1 tranny and go to 8000 rpm, his AP2 will hit 59 mph. However, if he takes it to the rev limiter, he'll get that last mph. But can any one be that accurate or will the average person have to bounce it off the limiter to know for sure. We all know that the speedometer has a lag on it, so it will not register the actual mph up there unless you hang it.
PS. I'll trade him my AP1 tranny for his AP2 tranny, too. I'm not 8000 rpm limited. So, second dibs on his, after you.

All test drivers and magazines will begin to use 55mph as the benchmark for acceleration starting in 2008.
I'm curious where this came from?? Any verification links?

cant you put in an ap1's gear in? that'll let your car go 60mph in second gear.
you'd have to put the entire ap1 tranny in.

What if I put the rev limiter up some?
if you increased the redline to 9000 you'd probably be able to hit 60 in 2nd gear, however, hope you dont plan on keeping your engine very long.

I have some bad news for you (*well actually for others who have "regular" AP2s). Your AP2 car is geared to go 151 mph. It just so happens that unless you are ............................
1. Going downhill
2. Going with a strong tail wind
3. Supercharged or turboed
4. Being pushed from behind by a Viper or a Vette

........................... your car won't go much faster no matter what gears you put in. The S2000 is drag limited to about 150 mph. Honda just happened to optimize your AP2 car for geared top speed and drag limited top speed.

As for excessive wheel spin in 1st and 2nd, this is easily controlled by your right foot so long as there is some gray matter attached to it.

*So as to not lead anyone astray, "timg" has a "blown" engine. His car can exceed the drag limitations of a stock S2000.

Yeah of course I want to do 0-60 with out shifting to thrid, that can help out alot. Maybe .1 of a second but it all adds up in the long run like weight reduction.
actually it won't. if you change a transmission or final drive gear on your car to allow you to reach 60mph in 2nd gear, you'll actually run maybe .1 seconds SLOWER than you would have stock, even with the extra shift.

part of what allows the ap2 to be equal with the ap1 is the slightly more aggressive gearing, regardless of the extra shift. aside from this, very few "street" races go from 0-60 and then stop, so why slow yourself down?

the point that I'm trying to make is, if you use gearing to change your car's shift points so you can hit 60mph in 2nd gear, you are going to go SLOWER than you would have with the stock transmission.

TALLER gearing makes you accelerate SLOWER.

case in point. I have to shift to 3rd gear just before 60mph with my car now that I have 4.57 gearing. However, look at my video in my sig, and see what I do to a stock S2000. even though I have to shift before 60mph, I'm substantially faster.

Chase, it sounds like you should have gotten a used Vette or Viper. Those cars are all about dick-swinging acceleration without the need for ridiculous modification.
