Mingster, Don't know how much the ticket is. Last I heard it's $10 or $15 bucks since it's just a fix it ticket. I'll know when I go to the court to get it signed off.

I got the ticket on PV Drive North and PV Drive East in Rolling Hills Estates. The Sherrif sits there every morning and I drive past all the time. Guess they were just bored.

One of my friends just got a ticket for no front plate. He noticed I didn't have one and warned me about it. He said the fine is pretty hefty now. Not like it use to be.

Make sure you follow up. I got a fixit ticket in Long Beach and it took 4 lunches and 6 hours to get it signed off with the metal detectors in front of the court house, pay to park, etc. ..I was one day late to pay and the price went up to $400. (failure to appear!)
Get it done on time..
I see where Costa Mesa is planning to put in traffic light cameras soon. Another city to avoid.
Lets make a list of cities to avoid:
Irvine, Costa Mesa, LA County, ......

We talked about this a bunch on this thread earlier..

Note that it might not be only $10 bucks anymore. See my post on that thread.

This whole deal is a pile!!!!! I have been driving cars without front plates longer than many of you have been on the planet and think the police should have better things to do - and my son is a cop!!! BTW, he does not have front plates on either of his cars!!!!!!

I recently read an article on this whole fiasco and that the ACLU is considering filing a legal action on this matter claiming it (the traffic cameras, not front licnese plates per se) is a violation of privacy......The merits of the case are interesting but will no doubt take years to adjudicate.

Finally, in terms of fines, the last I heard, the fine for this was relatively minor - $25 or so.

Hope the Irvine PD has a more liberal legal interpretation (or at least bigger fish to fry) this weekend!

Unfortunately, you need to have a family member be an officer to get the tickets waived. Cops have special back license plate holder with a code so other cops know not to hassle those cars with plates. My brother gave me a card with his badge and ID info so the cops will let me off on fix it tickets.

RHES2K, that sucks that you got that ticket.

The cops are definitely enforcing the front license plate thing really hard. I put mine on since I used to work in Culver City and they were enforcing it WAY before any of the other cities were.

That's the first I've heard of someone getting a ticket in PV. Don;t the cops have better things to do than harass the rich

Mark,

It's obvious that they have nothing else to do. The Lomita Sheriff station is one of the slowest stations in the county (maybe the slowest). In the morning I see them sitting between two buildings "watching traffic". I bet they just came from Starbucks and they are sitting back reading the paper

By the way the front plate looks ugly. Lucky the cover still fits over it!

gonna leave the plates on?
or just until you get the ticket signed off?
the last one i got was on a 911. i hung the plate on the front from the trunk release... they signed it off and i put the plate back in the trunk.
ridiculous law-
you have to drive right by the same spot every day?

Since I live across from Irvine City Hall (and thus a lot of cop cars are cruising around the streets), I know cops have seen the front of my car zillions of times but never have the done anything about it.

So I wouldn't worry too much (about Irvine). But the red-light camera intersections so far are on Alton near the Spectrum (in the hi-teck business district) -- the meet this weekend goes nowhere near that.
