INJEN and AEM Shootout Complete!!!!!

I'd like to see someone perform some speed-to-speed in-one-gear tests. (I'll do it with my AP-22 if anyone is in CT) Such as 30-50 MPH in various gears, 60-80 MPH and so forth. No shifting, very repeatable. In stock form the car has great accel in vtec but is fairly ordinary when out of vtec. I think that this mod should really help the car in that regard.

Ok. To address MANY points:
There was NOTHING exagerated by the results. In fact, both performed VERY close to one another. As for throwing out any runs, no. There was a baseline followed by the removal of the stock box and installation of the AEM. Then 1 run from 3k and a 2nd from 3.5k. Same with the INJEN. Now, about the ECU, I do not know where all of the misinformation comes from, but Hondas have never, to my knowledge, used any type of learning ECU. You have canned programs set up at partial and WOT. The ECU selects which is best. If anyone still questions this, please contact your local tech at the dealership and have them explain to you the difficulties in modding Honda's due to their ECU's. If they used a MAF sensor, things would be different. As for them running rich, this is true of all VTEC motors. It is for protection. I think that if we put a VAFC on this car, we could smooth things out and get a bit more out of it, too. Let me see if I can get the owner to go for this. For those that enjoyed the tests, thanks. We enjoyed doing them and plan on doing many more. Feel free to contact us here for any questions you may have. We know Honda!

Very interesting results. I really didn't think there would be that much difference between the 2 CAIs. I've seen the Injen setup in person. I'll have to check out the AEM one at the next meet.
Question on the cutouts...
I have cut out both of the side brake duct pieces on my car when I installed the Coastal Metal grill pieces on mine. I noticed that the filter on both of these CAI's sit right in that compartment on the passenger side behind that duct. Someone asked earlier if there is danger from water intake.
What about just basic driving in a heavy rain? It seems like it would not take much of a splash or even just constant driving in rain to possibly cause problems. Would this be a real danger and it seems it might even just soak the filter after prolonged drives while raining.
Thanks for the help.

The only flexible part of the program is the closed loop. The Honda ECU functions off of MAP and vaccuum pressure. It is not a "learning" system by any means as its function under partial throttle is to maintain 14.7 and it makes whatever adjustments are necessary to achieve that. Under WOT, you are operating ONLY off of factory set perameters. Now on the VAFC issue, that is also not correct. I am not sure how many of these you have installed or if you have installed any, but rest assured that, combined, we have installed well over 50 units and tuned them along with cams in B series motors. Your theory is partially correct, but you are missing some key facts. Thanks.
Ben,
I just realized that you have a late model Prelude? If this is correct, we have experienced a phenomenon with the H22A ecu in that it will somehow reset some VAFC settings and I figured that to be a fluke. This is the only ecu that we have seen do this. 1 out of 50 plus ain't bad. The Prelude has always been such a joy to work with...I owned a 96 VTEC that loved to NOT gain power from mods it should have.
