Default Inspection

I have a Greddy TiC with the silencer off. I went to 4 different places, the tech step on the gas a couple of time and told me that chances are it will fail due to the exhaust is too loud. It seems the the RMV change the inspection policy/criteria several months back. I was wondering if anyone has a similar exhaust with the silencer on was able to pass the test. Thanks.

I've never heard of failing because of it being too loud...I've always heard it being strictly because of emissions.

yeah i don't think there is a noise test with a decibel machine, as long as you pass the sniffer test you'll be good, but then again i haven't lived in massachusetts since 2001...

i failed in NJ bc my Amuse non-resonated exhaust was too loud ... I went to another state inspection facility and the guy asked me if i had silencer for this and i said "i dont have any other exhaust" ... he spoke to his manager and before i know it, i have a new inspection sticker

I am avoiding the emissions issue in Missouri by adding my mom to the title so the car can remain registered in Kansas where the government doesn't care how green your car is.

It seems there are just different laws for different states. As far as here in Illinois, noise is not one they check unless it has changed within the past year. I think more importantly is the emissions for our state. Also, it depends on which person you can go to. Many times they don't even put me through the run thru because they are afraid of scratching/scraping my rims. LOL.

Mass law is exhaust must be stock. Fed law is under 92db if not mistaken. Most of the time you won't get stopped for it unless you are being dumb. There isn't actually a sound test for the Mass inspection, but if you tell'em that they probably will figure out non-stock is a no-no...

In the past with my Mustang I have told them of course it's loud your in a building!

Put in your silencers and try and find a shop who will take you.

I expect to have the same problem, I run the Invidia N1, it's way louder in the car then outside and at idle and cruise it's pretty tame. I have a few friends who are into cars and one's Trans Am is insanely loud and he can get a sticker, I likely will be going to his guy now that I moved away from home...
