Idyfohu has a Neuspeed dual exhaust he is trying to sell for a real good price. PM him about it. There is a post in the Utah forum about the exhaust.
Thanks for the info. I'm not really ready to buy at this point (got a few other upgrades I'm looking at first...and need some winter tires as well). This was just something I had been wondering about.

I'm a little suprised by the ricer comments....I didn't say anything about adding fart cans here, I was just curious about the benefits of getting the full exhaust vs. adding a couple of magnaflow or similar high quality mufflers. Believe me I'm not looking to have my car sound anything like a riced out civic.

Someone local to me just cut off one of the stock mufflers and sealed the hole - it sounds fantastic - we call it the OCK.5

If I still had my S I would have done it.
the REAL OCK.5 is to cut both mufflers off and run a pipe from the mid-muffler on out. i know it sounds like a silly i dea but it sounds awesome and loses the heavest part of the exhaust. it makes a good temporary solution until i save up enough money for the exhaust i want.

I am ybe WAY off base here, but I thought that there engines were designed with a certain amount of back-pressure included. I thought you only really needed a High-Flowing exhaust if you were FI, or had re-programmed the A/F ratio, and had to get rid of more air. The stock exhaust system is already pretty high-flow (thus minimal gains). I think you would really see the gains for and aftermarket exhuast (something like a comptech with 2 pipes after the mid-muffler instead of the stock single split at the rear axle) if you were force induction, and had extra air to move.

Please let me know if this is an incorrect assumption (engines designed (N/A) with certain back-pressure amounts already included as a matter of performance).

I had my stock exhaust cut just behind the resonator and had the exhaust replaced with 2 magnaflows.....I did it the for weight and cosmetics (visual and audable). It cost me $350. I have not dyno'd my car since, but expect no gains.

Are you happy with the results? Do you recall which magnaflows you got? Any pics?

Somebody a while back replaced their stock mufflers with Supertrapps and kept the rest of the stock piping. I have a second stock exhaust sitting in my garage that I plan on doing something similar to one day. I used to have a J's Racing single, but it was too loud for my pain threshold so I'm back to stock at the moment.

Having spent a fair amount of my childhood at local autocrosses, I rather like the Supertrapp sound.

everyone would say Spugen was the quiet one....
it has a nice sound .... it just louder than I want

Id like to compare Invidia.... or would it be same as spugen?

Depending on the sound you want, cutting out the resonator may do it for you. It gives the exhaust an excellent tone and just enough increase in volume to satisfy me (and all the others who have done it). Look for the threads on removing the resonator and see what people have to say; I can't recall one person being displeased with the result.

what about sound in general
"fart cannons" sound exactly as their name, isnt that the point

ya they look good, but the sound is horrible

I would buy a full catback from HKS or something beacuse, yes its lighter and it sounds amazing. knowing you arent getting much gains from an exhaust, why do it?... because of the sound!

Thats my 0,02

my initial thought on taking the resonator out is that the sound might not be deep/throaty but a little more buzzy... i guess i am wrong on that.. that would seem to be the most inexpensive way.
Does droning come entirely from the mufflers or a combination of piping and mufflers?
