Default Insurance Comparison

What would be more expensive to insure? One car Costs more... but the other is more of a sports car...

330ci hands down will cost more to insure. Most insurance companies base a lot of their rates for cars based upon the engines displacement. My second car when I was 17 was a 1994 Z28. The S2000 is just as fast as the stock LT1 5.7 V8 block was in the quarter mile. I am now alomst 23 so I am still in the under 25 bracket and insurance back then WITH good student discount was around $300 a month! My S costs me $166 a month now no good student because I am out of college. The 330ci has a larger engine so it will most likely cost more to insure. I also used to have an A4 and those rates weren't expensive either so being a BMW should not effect it too much. Get an S2000 the back seats in the 330ci are almost usless anyway.

insurers consider displacement, type of car, price, theft risk, driver age and gender, and general historical claims for a given model to do the premium.

each company uses a different model. with some, i would be the 330ci would be higher and others the S2000.

Your insurance agent is the only one with the answer. I have both.
Insurance is within a few dollars for identical coverage. My WRX
is the same price and my '04 S4 is $200 more.

Most insurance companies use ISO (government regulated) symbols to rate physical damage coverage. A few (like Progressive) use their own set of symbols, non-ISO. When any new car is manufactured the ISO assigns that vehicle a symbol. Symbols range from around 2 (minivans and such) to 26 (high performance sports cars). Don't ask me about exotics, I don't know, but the S2000 has a symbol of h24. This is one of the highest symbols to insure, #1 because the car was designed for performance and #2, because the car is a convertible. Convertibles are much more to insure than hardtops. The BMW will almost certainly have a lower symbol. I guarantee it will cost more to insure, sorry DMCFAN. The BMW will have a symbol around 18-20. This is still high (for comparison a Camry would be 10-14, a Taurus 8-12) but still lower than the S2000. I have both an S2000 and a BMW M3 and both their symbols are 24.

Yeah I am wrong the S is more. I just did quick quotes online to compare identical coverage for both cars in the same model year and the S was 400 more every 6 months. Still call your agent because online rates really do not give out an accurate number but you can atleast get an idea of differences between cars.
