where are you located? He's in california and that's why the rate is so high. HOwever, it should not be that high unless he has bad credit and bad driving record
Live in Albuquerque, NM. Both me and my fiancee are on the policy. Full coverage on the S2k, everything except comp/collision on the M3. Multi-multi-policy discount, homeowner, no tix/accidents in 5+ years, and hell if I know my credit score. It's pretty good though. my annual premium is about $1200-1300 for both cars. I think. Maybe less.
Massachusetts insurance is high as well. Also as one poster mentioned, the insurance company has a specific rating for the car.
I was told they enter the VIN number and some kind of code comes up. The "S" comes up with one of the highest number codes, premiums are based on that, as well as your coverage selections, then if you have any "points" against you, the cost keeps rising.
We are Vintage folks with clean driving records. We pay approximately $1500.00 to insure the "S" and another $1100.00 or so to insure a Jeep Liberty that is already three years old.
No bargains for car insurance in MA, not sure how CA is.

You have all the fwd noob's that came straight from their accords, civics, preludes, etc. in to the S2000 as their first rwd car, one if not the most unforgiving on the market, to thank for making the S2000 one of the most expensive rwd, two door cars to insure in the United States.

I'm not an owner yet but I was quoted $1230 a year for the S with my Pathy.
The 00' S carries an insurance symbol rating of 19' but the 04' carries a rating of 24. This is based on a scale up to 27.
To put it in perspective my Pathy is a 19, where as my 99' Miata is a 14. A 27 is something like a MBZ C500...the higher the risk and replacement value the higher the number.
