Default Insurance covers modification?

Hey guys I was wondering if insurance covers modification if your car was stolen or totalled? I see some people say that if its bolted onto the car it is covered or if you still have the receipt it be covered as well as well as just paying an extra premium to getting it covered. There are a couple of big $ mods that I plan to do in the future but in my city I'll need all the reassurance I can get.

I'd search but you know how horrible that function is.......

You should find out what your policy covers. What I was told by my insurance company is that anything that is on my car when it's in an accident is covered. I was pretty happy to hear that

My previous civic Si had volk TE 37 wheels, koni yellow shocks, eibach springs, and some clutch work. When the car was stolen, my insurance company (progressive) only covered up to 1000 dollars on these parts because I did not purchase a custom parts insurance plan. The difference would have only come out to about 7 dollars more a month.

Definitely ask about it, because if your car is stolen that money invested just might be wasted away like mine.

Each policy is different when it comes to aftermarket parts. Some only cover OEM...so if you have $5000 rims that are stolen they'll give you $1500 stock rims. Some policy covers anything on the car at the time the policy is written as long as it's documented by the agent. Some polices cover with receipts, some cover without. I would definately call your insurance company (in addition to your agent) and find out for sure.
