I remeber I used to swap cars with my friend Ross who had a Ferrari 348ts and that car was soooo much fun to drive...to just click through the gears......the engine sound was sweet too.

umm...yeah...umm...we own a honda right?

Don't get me wrong but I love Ferrari's but I think that's were that item should stay. I think the shifter is going to rattle back and forth I would think just to much for this to work, like "Ferrari"

Just my .02

Wow. What's next? Spinning rims?

Seriously, I'd need to take a look at the finished product first. I am getting mighty tired of the crappy boot the car came with, and I would like to see an alternative to pleather and leather.

I think it's a good idea, and like the others I'd be interested in the finished product. Seems tricky. I haven't driven Ferrari, but I've read (yeah that's as close as I'll get for a while) that the gate is an annoyance in shifting. Our throws are so close together, I think it will be difficult.

To add to DarkCrow's excellent point regarding the vibration in the shifter and contact with the gate itself, the shift gate would need to be able to *allow* the shifter to vibrate however it wants to, otherwise it wears out the tranny (that's just what I heard, but I think it would be good to check into that).

Great idea Rick, but I'm not very confident that it is feasible though. I would buy it if I liked what I saw, for sure.

I started a thread on this a while back. My brother has a cnc and thought he could make one. When we took the calipers to the measure the shift pattern we found that ther metal between the shift slots would be too thin. Also if you feel the shifter thru the boot you will notice it gets very thick very quick. I think you would have to replace this first. I would love to see someone make one fo these, but with the tight shift pattern; I am not sure it can be done. We came up with an idea to make shorter slots, more like notches, and then have another piece that fits underneath that slides and blocks out dust/noise.

As you've all pointed out, the issue is whether it will work. All good questions and suggestions, so thanks. I do have a spare shift mechanism to work with, so I'll be reporting back in about 2-3 weeks on what we conclude. I have my doubts, too.
